I saw this product Wysong Vegan Canine/Feline food in the pet supply store
today and had to do a double-take. Is this nutritionally sound? And how
can it be both cat and dog food?

If I'm not mistaken, you're supposed to add fresh meat to it. Cats should
never be fed a vegetarian diet. Here's a description from Wysong's website:
"A meatless clinical animal diet for use in nutritional management of adverse
food reactions in both dogs and cats. Entirely vegetarian, containing no meat
or meat by-products. Designed to be used with meats which are non-allergenic
for your specific animal. Does not achieve feline protein recommendations. This
product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only."

Have you ever heard him speak? He's like a game show host or one of those
2-in-the-morning infomercials! LOL!

I would never do that to my cat or dog, otherwise known as my carnivore
(though I think dogs are more omnivore given a penchant for socks and
stuff). My personal beliefs aside, I would have no business imposing
them on an animal whose entire physiology calls for something
different.
