Travel Dilemma

I need to hear some thoughts.  I've been assigned to work on an audit
in another state.  I don't mind--it is what I signed up for.  The
problem is what to do about Kami.  Usually when we do out of state
audits, they go for two weeks at a shot.  It would be rough, but I
could get someone to feed Kami during that time.  But since they expect
the audit to be about three months, they asked if I would be opposed to
just doing the whole thing in one stint.  Still not opposed, but that
put a different spin on the Kami issue.  It would be hard to take her
with me, but she can't be cat-sat for that long or boarded without her
feeling abandoned.  Taking her with me would limit where I could stay.
It's a small company with no budget, and they've usually arranged rooms
in home of friends or relatives in the area.  Extended stay hotels and
short-term leases are monstrously pricey.

Any ideas?

I think that Motel 8's are cat friendly and they can't be too expensive.
Surely there is one where you are going. Find out what the town is and call
around looking for one. I'm sure your company would spring for that. Here

Your cat is elderly, and they aren't having to support insurance for you for
a family, I would think it would be a deal for them to let you stay at a cat
friendly place.

Thanks for the link.  How do you think Kami would take it, though?  She
did okay with the move, and we're actually going back where we jusy
came from.  Sheesh!  There's some bad planning.  ;)  It's Los Angeles
(Burbank) and it's all expensive no matter what.  One boss has a friend
with a back house, but it's "over the hill."  Nasty commute.  My sister
is out there, too, but I don't think I could deal with her for 3
months.  I'm not even going to mention her to the bosses.

Well, with THAT long, I would think she'd be better off getting to see you
everyday and having a schedule than being sat. Especially with her health. I
know that my own cats *definitely* suffer sometimes from that lack of
routine if I go away. Once, Sugar stopped eating and had to be hospitalized
3 days when I was gone for a week. Only you know Kami well enough, but
that's a really long time.

Yeah, I really think sitting for that length of time is too much.  She
did pretty well on the car ride out here that I would probably want to
drive out again.  That would save the company on airfare and a rental
car.  There's got to be a way to work it out.  They go on the cheap,
cheap, cheap!!!  I know they don't expect employees to do such
sacrificial accommodations, but I still want to make it fair for all
concerned.

At least I know where the vet is.  :)

Would your sister be willing to take Kami for 3 months and then you could stay
elsewhere and visit her often?  Only if your sis likes cats a lot, though.
Isn't there someone else you know there who likes cats and would let Kami stay
with them.  I don't think you should leave her behind that long either because
of her age and CRF issues.
