Xena eats up my lemon grass.
Since our yard has been 'done' I had it mulched while I am deciding what to
plant and where. Meanwhile, the weeds are gone, and lemon grass (or what is
left of it) is the only grass. I have put some barley and wheatgrass seeds
in pots for her; they should be long enough by the next wekend.
How good is barley and wheat for a cat?
Thanks in advance,
Andr0

IMO very good. I've been giving wheat grass to my cats all their lives and
they love it. Supposed to be good for digestive, high in vitamins, etc.
Good to "see" you :)

Thanks for your feedback, Lauren! I checked Xena's grass tonight; it is
about 1 centimetre high now. She will enjoy it, I am sure.
Andr0:)
PS. It's nice to 'see' you, too:)

I use oat seeds from a feed store ($8.00 for a 50 pound bag). I use
lawn soil in a flower pot and water with a spray can twice a day. It
grows to 4 inches in less than a week - then I put it out for the cats.
After another week the grass is about 8 inches tall and has started to
turn yellow. By that time I have another pot ready to put down. I
tried potting soil but that doesn't work too well. Miracle Grow works
well but is expensive.

It sounds like you have a good system, Mike!
I also intend to try using quick methods of growing grass, but since we
have a garden, I will try to grow some grass long-term. Wheat grass, oats
and barley sound great since they are non-invasive (unlike a lawn). I let
Xena explore the yard on weekends, when I can supervise her to prevent her
getting away and into serious trouble. My job is easier when she grazes
rather than explores the fence and possible 'escapes'. I am also lucky to
have a narly 15lb girl who thinks twice about climbing unknown surfaces,
LOL!
