I have had this cat for about 2 years & the best cat in the world so far
She has medium long hair .
This summer the hair that comes off this cat is to much to bear . If she
rubs next to my pant leg it is covered in hair if she gets in my lap i
get totaly covered in hair . The floors and furniture in this house are
covered with cat hair . Everytime i turn around i have a piece of cat
hair in my mouth or on my food .
She goes outside alot and has run of the garage where i have a large rug
in front of a workbench  where she lays alot . I can clean this rug and
in one day its covered with big gobs of hair .

Tired of following this cat around 24-7 vacuuming  .
I know cats loose some hair but never seen anything like this .

Any ideas ?

Do you comb her? Mine have shed a lot more this year. But i comb them daily
and that helps quite a bit. Still, I need to vaccuum about every three days.

I have tried combing or brushing and one can only brush about 1/3 of a
cat for only so long before she gets up & walks off so that didnt help
the hair problem .

I regularly keep her 3 main ( chosen by her ) sleeping places clean . A
chair in a window , the whole love seat and my kitchen chair .
Lately she has taken to trying to spend her sleeping , cleaning time on
other fruniture totaly different spreding even more hair all over things
.

I use a blower to clean my garage floor off and yo should see the huge
tornado of cat hair billow up & fly out the big door .

thanks for your suggestion .

I will say, with three cats, I have a bunch of cat trees that they mostly
sleep on, however, I also put attractive washable throws on the furniture
that can be tossed in the washer and dryer. There are LOTS of inexpensive
decorative choices out there,so that is also another way I deal with it that
is convenient.

I assumed my cat was decorating my house with her fur on purpose ;-)

I comb mine daily too and my daughter and I have a running joke about
the 5th cat we combed out of the 4 each day. I get tons of hair even
with daily grooming. I do note that it does seem to have slower
periods during the year but there are times when I groom them and go
to pet them 5 minutes later and my hand is covered in fur. Usually
this happens when they are blowing coat for change in season.

The groomer I take my dog to has a technique for both dogs and cats, its a
two step grooming method.  I'm not really sure what's involved as I've enver
had it done on my animals but she explained it as removing hair from the
undercoat with a special comb/grooming tool.  She said this reduces shedding
in a cat by 80%.  She gave me a pamphlet on it when I was there last month,
I'll have a look for it and post the details when I find it.  A few of her
customers were there and they get it done regularly, they said it works
really well.

As the owner of a totally white cat who it seems sheds about 50% of her body
hair per day, I would recommend the following:-
1) Brush her as ofter as you can.  NB.  The wire type brushes are better for
getting the hairs off than the bristle ones, in my experience.
2) After you brush her try to wipe her coat with a damp cloth.
3) Vacuum every day
4) Don't wear a lot of black clothes!

I'm not sure where you live, but I'm in the UK and when the cold weather
arrives the shedding does calm down.
