Kami has Successful Dental

I've been concerned about Kami's approaching dental because of her CRF,
heart murmur, etc., and her previous vet not wanting to do it.  But I
took her in today and the vet said she was a champ.  She went through
the anesthesia just fine, woke up right away like she was supposed, and
the vet even said they did kidney bloodwork beforehand and her BUN was
normal and her creatinine only slightly elevated.  She gave her a
little sub-q before the procedure, and didn't even need any teeth
pulled (although she was missing one I didn't know about).

So she's back!  No more smelly kisses for a while.  :)

Awesome!  Its hard to make the decision to put them through it due
to health, but stories like this reinforce that it can be done
successfully.  Better than making them suffer. :)

It makes me a bit hopeful since I'm about an hour away from bringing
Jackie in for an exam by the pros and likely dental procedure. I'm
betting quite a few teeth are going to be extracted. I'm also hopeful
that they won't find anything even worse. My vet finally managed to
get a quick look down her throat and says that he did not see any
growths but it was a very fast look before Jackie made it clear that
any more mouth opening was not going to be tolerated.

If she does get anesthetized I think maybe I should have an Xray done
or whatever else they can do to diagnose any other problems that we
don't know about yet. Something is causing diarrhea but maybe it's the
chronic infection. Well, I'll know soon.

Yeah, Kami made it clear she had had enough for the day when the
tech brought her in, inside her carrier, and the vet walked in and
she hissed and struck out.  It was time to go home!  LOL!  All she
did was remind me that stress is not her friend, other than that she
was remarkable.  They take some digital pictures and gave me a sheet
with a before and after closeup of the teeth (one side) and a long
shot of her laying on the table and the tech working on her.  Kind
of neat.

Does your vet do ultrasound?  Dr. Tina said it's sometimes easier to
ultrasound an animal than make them hold still long enough for an x-
ray, and you can see different things.  She specializes in soft
tissue and heart ultrasound.  Otherwise, yeah, if they're out, do
whatever you can to them.  I had Kami's punctal ducts flushed and
asked the tech to give her a good thorough brushing.  She likes to
be brushed, but just can't hold still for the excitement.
