Ok, I'll get straight to the point, I won't bore you with a long
winded story.. :)
I'm about (hopefully) to be reunited with my cat after an 18-month
abscence (after owning him for 10 years).
Simple question: will my cat remember me after this much time?

Yes. So expect some really dirty looks and some time looking at her back.
You deserve to suffer, after all. ;)

when i was visiting my mom some time ago, Murka the demon cat was so
unfriendly. she clearly showed that she was not happy to see me. she
didn't respond when i called her, she wouldn't let me pet her - she
hit me and tried to bite. so i stopped trying. when i visited about
2 weeks ago, she was totally different! i petted her, she let me
groom her, she let me pick her up and hold her for a few min. she
usually doesn't let my mom groom her! she gets annoyed when someone
leaves for a while and then shows up expecting attention all of a
sudden.

This is funny! Another funny thing: my mother's cat, the daughter of my
Gnarly, hated my guts. This is the cat that stayed under the covers the
whole time I cared for my mother after she had back surgery, and if I
approached she growled every time. Well, just like her kitty mama Gnarly,
she was none too bright. :) After a little while she seemed to forget I was
the enemy and actually rubbed up against me while I was in the kitchen
cooking. But when I reached down to pet her, she must have smelled me or
something, because she did a 180 and hissed and spit and split. :)

Yes, but you MUST be punished. Expect the cold shoulder for a day or two.

Hi Todd,
Based on personal experience, I believe that your cat will remember you.
When our daughters went to college, the cats definitely remembered them when
they came home.
Now that we live across the country, we see our daughters even less often.
In fact, the cats we had when our daughters were growing up are not longer
with us.
Yet, when a daughter comes to visit, our cats walk right up to her and
greet her just like she had always lived here and never left.
I'm sure your cat will remember you. Congratulations on getting back
together.
Please post here and let us know how it goes.
Annie
