I made the monthly trek to Petsmart today. Among my purchases for the month was
a new turbo scratcher. They lost the ball out of the old one and I can't find
it anywhere, and it needed cardboard refills anyway. So I go to buy a whole
new one. All they had was this "new" kind. It's just like the old turbo
scratcher, except the ball lights up when it's moved. I thought it was cool. It
totally creeped them out and they won't play with it. I have to figure out some
way to make it stop flashing. Maybe if i soak it in water or something? I don't
think you can open it up. Does anybody else have one of these?

can't you return it? i got one of these toys - a kitty swat
exerciser. it's a cloth ball with a bell on a spring attached to a
carpeted base. she loves playing with it when i swat it for her and
she runs around and keeps hitting it, or hides and hunts it. once it
stops moving, she loses interest and leaves, or waits for me to hit it
again. great. she prefers trying to pull down the blinds!

I think that's more of a kitten toy. I have one and mine liked it when they
were kittens but no one has showed any interest in it once they grew up.

I've got the old kind. But the ball has never come out of it. I'm surprised
that your cats got it out of the track. As far as the new one, is there some
way to remove the battery from inside the ball, if that's what in fact does
light it up?

Hmmmm, progress. They always have to "improve" everything. Can you find a
regular ball that is the same size as the one in the scratcher? You probably
already thought of that. I'm surprised, too, that your cats got it out of the
track. They must be hard core players.

I tried a regular ball. It pops out too easy. I finally pried the new one
apart, then superglued it back together. You're right about "progress".
Sometimes I don't know why they don't just *leave something alone*!! While I'm
on a vent, the only Tidy Cat clay litter they had was in the "new" 40-lb. bags.
With six pounds free. I weigh 100 pounds. I can't man-handle that new 46-pound
size bag. Grrrr.

ouch! Shaina likes to spend a lot of time on the window sill playing
and looking at stuff. she also likes to nap there. it's two windows
side by side. so i decided to get her a window perch from Petsmart.
i ordered it online with the other stuff. it was said to attach to
ANY window sill. well, not to mine, it didn't attach! i have an
airconditioner/heater right under there and the stupid thing doesnt'
fit over it, so now i have to return it. i also got this nice fuzzy
bed for her because she no longer wanted to sleep in the old one that
i just made up for her out of cloth on a huge pillow when i just
brought her home. well, the new bed she didn't care for and it was
lying in the leather chair by the window. instead of lying ON the
bed, Shaina would push it to the side and lie between the bed and the
back of the chair and still lie on the window OR the air conditioner.
i thought i'd make it more comfy for her and i put a canvas pad in the
corner between windows, attached it with duct tape and put the bed
there. she examined it thoroughly and stepped into it. then stepped
out and jumped over it to get to the other side of the window sill.
ahm, ok. then i see her lying on the air conditioner in a pose i'd
fine rather uncomfortable. now she is sleeping in my drawer with
checkbook, sunglasses and other uncomfortable stuff. oh well.

This goes somewhat to "change" and how some manufacturers changed
things, but I had bought one of those perches for a window and it
fit well, and the cats were fighting over it so I ordered another
one online from the same store (Petco). The description and picture
were the same as the one I already had so I figured it would the
same as what I got before, but they had changed the design a little
bit and this one didn't work on the same window. They should just
leave these things alone! lol

Oh no! That's frustrating. My cats used to love their window perches. This
house has 12-inch windowsills and the kind of perch we used to use won't work.
Twelve inches is wide enough to sit or lay on, but not really sprawl out like
they used to do in the old house with a perch.

They might like it in the dark. My cats have a ball like that and
they love to play with it at night.
