as Shaina grows bigger, i see darker gray stripes developing on her
fur. she has this lighter gray underfur and slightly longer darker
gray fur on her back and now the stripes.  examining the fur is met
with such screams that you'd think i'm trying to pluck it out!  i
think she decided that she will not be handled and that's that.  she
is also becoming really dangerous because of her amazing ability to
appear in most precarious places without our ever noticing.  the worst
thing is when she runs between our feet when we walk.  she tripped me
yesterday and i dropped this large glass ashtray which split into
gazillion pieces all over the newly washed kitchen floor, spilling
ashes and cigarette butts.  i managed to cut myself with some glass
while picking it up, so for the next 5 minutes i was screaming " you
little demon cat"!  she understands when we say "NO".  i just wish she
could understand when we say "please sit quietly, please".
well, this morning, she came to visit me in bed and after looking for
the most comfy place to sit, she chose a spot on the pillow right in
front of my nose, so my nose was stuck in her fur.  she's very soft
and fuzzy.

TO be honest I **NEVER** carry knives or scissors around anymore (you  know
how sometimes you carry it out to watch a brief thing on TV while chopping
or something).  The last apartment house I lived in the manager told me how
one day she went to one of the tenants apartments and the lady did not
answer which was wierd, so she went in. The woman was carrying a knife and
tripped over her cat, and she fell stabbing her self pretty badly. It really
stuck with me because I've had enough incidents to see how this could
*easily* happen. With a kitten you have to turn on your "ESP". Never forget
to be aware of what is around you.

ouch!  that's scary!  Shaina is quick enough to get out of anything
before she is hurt.  i am not.  it's like our reality is slower than
hers and she controls it!  she can now get onto pretty much any
surface, except for the fridge and the counters, which are too high up
for her, but other than that, she is EVERYWHERE!  it's fun to have her
run around when i am doing something, but i do have to be
hypervigilant now.  i was putting a book shelf together yesterday, and
she was all over that, hiding and stalking and trying to fish out
little bolts and plastic things out of containers.  i locked her in a
different room at some point, but when i came in, she was just sitting
there, near the door, looking very sad, with her head turned tot he
side, so i let her out.  she's too cute for her own good.

I don't either - the main reason being my Border Collie mix jumps when
she's excited and we have had way too many close calls...I can just
see those damn things going into her eye...
