I have a flea infestation in my home and on my two babies. One is a 13
yr-old Himalayan/Siamese mix, the other is a 3 yr-old calico mix. Which is
better, Frontline Plus or Advantage? And why? All comments and opinions are
welcome.
I would like to thank you all in advance for your advice.
I suffered a similar event last summer, it was so bad I started believing my
fleas had cats.
Anyway, I phoned up the vet who recommended Frontline and within two DAYS after
application, the fleas were GONE from my house, my 4 cats and, yes, me. Eke!
I've never tried Advantage because the Frontline worked so very, very well.
Best $30.00 I'd spent in a long time.

I went to my vet and they suggested Advantage ($16 per cat + $3 for them to
put it on for me. They also gave them a pill each called Capstar to help
kill the fleas on them faster.
My next question is what did you use to get rid of them in your house? I
bombed with the Zodiac bombs already and I feel as if it did nothing. At
least the drops are working I have found no living movement on them since
yesterday.

I've used Vet-Chem flea bombs. You have to empty the house for two hours, then
air it well, and they're not cheap...but it will kill all insect/arthropod life
forms in the house (and probably anything else left in there during the
bombing).

Sounds good. But where do you buy them? I've never heard of it.

I got mine through my vet. They've also got a website; run a google search for
them.
I think it's an Italian company. The bombs work very well. Got rid of all the
fleas, plus spiders, roaches, etc.

Thanks I will check it out. I would love to get rid of my fleas and ants
and such. At least I have no roaches!!!!

Jenni G,
Be sure to air out the house/apartment very well before re-entering.
I've been very pleased with theVet-Chem bombs.

Don't use that stuff. It is old organophosphate chemistry and highly
toxic. If you must use an environmental spray, use Frontline spray
which can be ordered from your vet or through Drs. Foster's and Smith.
If you use Advantage or Frontline on your kitties you shouldn't need
to treat the house, though. The fleas will dissipate over time -
usually about a week.

Yes, I'm using Advantage but my babies aren't wondering the house so they
are not getting to some fleas to kill them and I have company coming next
weekend. So, I just need a little extra boost.

Ok, then spend the extra money for the Frontline spray, then,
especially if you have pets and children. I would not under any
circumstances use those bombs. They are highly toxic.
Good luck,

When we got the first 2 resque cats Catfiive and Lucifer, they had so
many fleas their fur crawled. They vet gave me some Fontline to use
sparyingly cause they were both so small and about 5 weeks old. It
works. Once the fleas were gone they were gone for good.
Frontline is the best thing I have ever used and I use to own a
kennel. I have used many different products but Frontline is the
easiest and most reliable thing I have ever used. I don't even us it
monthly now (cats are indoors) I only use it a few times a year. I do
bug bomb 2 x's a year and I keep chrystles around the exterior of the
home (eath berm home) to keep bugs out.

A product I get good results from is Zema IGR Insect Growth Regulator spray.
It kills adult fleas and keeps eggs from hatching. Preferred method is to
spary, vacuum, then spray again. Either clear the sweeper right after or
shoot a nice long spray into it while running to ensure that whatever you
may have swept up live will be killed. It can be ordered online from several
outlets. Cost is around $7 for a large can. Zema also makes a high strength
pyrethrin dip.
