Kami went for her first visit with the new vet today.  They did her
brloodwork in 20 minutes, which is really cool (though they have to
send out the thyroid test and that will be back Monday).  She's
actually doing pretty good.  I thought since she has been on somewhat
of a food strike for the last few weeks it would be worse.  But not so
bad, all things considered.

BUN - 36.4
Creat - 3.3

She gave us three different renal diets to try for her.  Anyone have
opinion on Eukanuba and Purina prescriptions?  We also got a couple
cans of k/d minced.  She didn't say anything about Royal Canin, which
has the chunky variety.  I might ask her about that because the vet in
the PetsMart carries it and it's easy to get.

She still has a heart murmur (duh), got some sub-q for the elevated
creat.  She has some antibiotics to take before getting her dental--and
this vet will do the dental--and some drops for her eyes to hopefully
reduce any inflammation in her eyes as we try to figure what's with her
punctal ducts.

Old cat.  :)

Sounds good, all things considered. When they get older, its so hard.
I'm glad you found a new vet you like and while I don't know what
those readings mean, you sound happy about it and she's well taken
care of. :)

Thanks.  I do have a question, that's going to have to wait until
Monday.  She gave me 20 Baytril, but they're only once a day, so I'm
wondering if it should have been 10.  You only take antibiotics for 10
days.  Right?

I think it depends on the antibiotic, but definitely call!

The office is closed.  I hope she looks at her email over the weekend,
though.  While I was trying to answer my own question, I came across
this letter issued by Bayer about Baytril and feline dosing.  It says
not to exceed 5mg per day while they study some effects that cause
blindness.  These tablets are 20mg to be given once a day.  I emailed
the link to the vet in addition to my asking how long they should be
given.  I think we're safe to wait until I hear back before continuing
with the drug.

Here's the link to the notice for those interested.

I am rather impressed with this vet.  Since it wasn't an urgent matter, I
sent an email, since my experience with doctors, human and animal (the
patients, not the doctors), is that they don't check emails but every few
days.  Sunday morning she wrote back explaining that she goes longer with
CRF cats and enjoys having clients who do their homework.
