I just saw an interview with Halle Berry in regards to the movie Catwoman.
Interestingly she said that she hates cats yet she had to live with one in
order to prepare for the movie. She felt cats were too independent and aloof
and that she has dogs. In the same interview she said she now loves her cat.
Interesting how she accepts a role where the hero models everything after
the cat after saying she hates them. I guess like some humans, she slowly
became partly a cat person. I have to wonder where shot got her cat now.
Let's hope this feline was adopted from a shelter.

I saw the same interview and found it interesting that she played Catwoman
but hates cats (or at least use to).  Why do people think cats are aloof???
I think it's because they aren't around cats and just make that assumption.

I have found that everyone I know who says such things has been only
around outdoor cats, like farm cats, who really ARE aloof and
independent, and other people's cats, who often don't like strangers.
If the only cats a person is exposed to are aloof and unfriendly, the
person generalizes to think ALL cats are that way. The truth is, a lot
of cats love their humans to death and are affectionate as all get out
with them, but they don't trust strangers much. So IME, people who have
never had a cat of their own tend to have this sort of opinion about
them.

My 2 cents, anyway.

The people who think cats are aloof and hate them are usually dog people.
There have been plenty of times I have encountered dog lovers who bash cats
for whatever the reason. I think it will always be cats vs dogs. I of course
will always be on the side of cats.

That's total bullshit. There are more well integrated dog/cat households than
you could count and people who love both. It's not cats-versus-dogs. Some
people have a preference, but all cat lovers don't hate dogs, like you do.

I love cats and dogs.

Oh, me too. And birds and fish and turtles and squirrels and wolves and daddy
long-leg spiders and ladybugs and horses and bunnies and...and...
I don't think anybody can classify themselves as an animal lover if they hate
dogs.

Hear hear! I think it's like Kaeli said, it's what you've been exposed
to. After getting Bubbas 3 years ago (may he rest in peace), I've very
much become a cat-dog person. They each have their different
positives, but a lot of it is individualized. I have a cat that acts a
lot like a dog, and I know dogs that are very cat-like. I'm actually
jonesing for a dog right now, but am waiting till my boyfriend returns
from his summer job so we can pick one together. Of course, my Audrey
will *not* be pleased *at all* by another dog, I'm going to try to get
one a little smaller this time. :)

Not everyone has the same loony psyche that CP does, for sure!

Awww what kind? Big, little, medium? I haven't had the heart to get another one
since we lost Happy but I sure miss having one.

She adopted her snow Bengal co-star.

That doesn't answer the question. Did they get the cat from a shelter or a
breeder?

Well, as the cat is a snow Bengal trained for movie work, it'd
be a pretty good guess for 'from a breeder'.   Actually, it's a slam
dunk as the breeder of said Bengal is on a Bengals list I'm on.

That is very sad then. Another person who adopts a cat from a breeder
instead of one from a shelter. It's bad enough we have an overpopulation
problem but to deny a cat from the shelter a good home is even worse.

She went from being someone who didn't like cats to one who's willing to
adopt her (admittedly specially bred and trained) co-star, so I'd chalk that
up as a victory for cat lovers, rather than whine about homeless kitties in
shelters.  Who knows, Ms Berry may well go on to adopt some homeless kitty
one day.  One small step at a time, I say!
