Hello,
New to your group.
The kittens are about 8 weeks old (lots of fun).
They were rescued from being destroyed. They lived under a mobil in a
rural area.
Both are boys and eat and play and sleep well. One has a habit of
wiping his rear on the floor after doing his business.
A friend said it might me worms, but I can't see any in the stool.
Has anyone come across this before?

Yes, and it was worms. His bottom is itchy. It's probably time for his first
visit to the vet.

I'd also guess worms. Nearly all kittens have worms, and if they've had fleas,
it's almost a given they're gonna have tapeworms. Butt scooting is a major
give-away. Another reason would be an anal gland problem, but since they're
kittens, I'm betting it's worms. Have a vet check them & give them a dewormer.

Another vote for worms.
Most of the time, you won't see worms in the stool. Most varieties live
in the intestinal tract and only eggs and dead pieces come out in the
stool. The vet checks the stool for worm eggs and segments using a
microscope. Bring kitties and stool samples to the vet. Make sure to
label the stool samples at home so you remember whose was whose.

oh yeah. My boy has been a butt wiper all his life and I've had him tested
for all kinds of things over the years....We removed the carpet and put in
pergo (not because of the cats but for other reasons) and he is all at
sixes and sevens.
He has tried to wipe on the pergo but it just ain't the same.

Hi, Tony. Grizzled old cat lady here.
Kittens are pretty much guaranteed to have roundworm, which you wouldn't
necessarily see in the stool (at least not at first). There are other
parasites to worry about, however, esp when the kittens come from a poor
environment.
It's time for the kittens' first vaccine, if you haven't already. Take in
some fresh poop for the vist and ask for a fecal. You may find more than
meets the eye.
Thanks for rescuing the little buggers.

Brio's done this a couple of times but in her case it's cus of
dingleberries. 8-) ... the plaque of cats with long hair around the butt and
back legs. Woke up to skid marks all over my bedroom carpet the other
morning and had to get the carpet cleaned.
Yeah, get stool samples and have a vet check and identify the parasite so an
appropriate remedy can be given.

Kim, you should get a Dirt Devil spot cleaner. I have one, and it's a
real money and time saver. Shadow is a butt dragger, too, with his
diarrhea, and I just load up the spot cleaner with some oxy clean and
hot water and it takes the skids right out. I think this combo would
take Meow Mix puke out of the carpet. Sherry. lol

No joke? What's the active ingredient? Plutonium? LOL.
Incidentally, another great little machine for pet accidents is The Bissell
Little Green Machine. I couldn't do without it.

You guys are really depressing me. Does owning a cat mean we HAVE to
have sh.t streaks all over our house? And puke? And remove all
carpeting and fill every available piece of floor space with kitty
litter boxes on the off chance they happen to go there as well as
everywhere else?
I used to think cats were relatively clean pets.

Maybe, but I am beginning to think you really want
to keep this cat.

Oh, no. Not at all. Keep in mind that Cheryl fosters and has a chronically ill
cat. I foster occasionally and usually end up with strays. Right now I have six
cats in the house. My house is very clean and does *not* smell. But it's a lot
of work to keep it that way. That's my choice.
If you have one or two adult "normal" cats, really there should be no more work
than changing a litterbox and keeping hair vaccuumed. Most of the scenarios
discussed here are *not* the norm for the average cat owners.

Like Sherry said, since this group is for mainly health and health
problems, most of us don't have "ordinary" problems.

Not fostering anymore. Not until Shadow dies, but I hope that is a
loooong time from now. :)

It is more work than not having one, but honestly, *I* drop more on the
carpets than my cats do. Yes, there is the ocassional streakage. They don't
have hands! Sometimes, there is a little problem and they have ONE choice.
Scoot. It cannot possibly be as bad as kids with drinks and throwing up etc.
I guess if the pleasure of their company does not outway any cons, pets of
any kind are not for you. Except maybe a fish. But they do not purr and
cuddle and play or be cute and have quirky ways that entertain.
Mary - 08 Jul 2004 18:45 GMT

It'a a lot more joy than not having one, too. Cheeks occasionally upchucks
as does Buddha, but neither have bad toilet habits. Twice in the three years
I have had her I noticed a little "hanger on" and wiped cheeky's butt, but
that's it. She definitely did not appreciate it, though! I got the HUGE eyes
and the "MEEE yuuuuu!!!!" Heh.

P.S. I got a great deep carpet cleaning Bissell for under 100.00. I have
very light carpets and my house is very clean. The Bissell makes it easy.

The other alternative is few or no carpets. My house never felt as clean
when I had wall-to-wall, and now that I have hardwoods, tile, slate, with
area rugs, my allergies are better too. For the rugs I have, I rent a carpet
steamer maybe three times a year for $20 and deep clean them.

ooohhhh my Green Machine....after who knows how many months, I finally
figured out where the pee smell was coming from on my carpet and went out
to find my green machine and the piece of plastic on the top of the
hose that makes it
suck the liquid back....was missing. I spent hours standing on my head,
trying to work the machine without that piece. Only people who have a
green machine could visualize it, but yes, the green machine is wonderful.
Portable and easily cleaned.
dingleberries....ew. Now that's almost an onomodapeia (however you spell
that)

I got the upright power one that looks like a vacuum and has an upholstery
attachment. It is even easier than a green machine and works a treat. It is
also great for getting up that layer of hair regular vacuuming does not. It
kind of balls it all up and then you can just pick it up. It lightened my
big throw rug by at least an entire shade by getting rid of the hair! I just
love it.

I love mine, too. Wonder if we could order replacement parts? I lost the
attachment thingy that you use to clean windows. Not that I ever clean windows
or anything though.

You need to take them to a vet. How do you know what kind of worms they
have? They may have coccidia or giardia (not worms, but parasites),
which are not treatable by this dewormer.

I've seen cats do this when they had inflamed anal glands. Worms are
likely. Practically all kittens need to be wormed.
