When rubbing my cats belly I felt a largish hard lump. My first though
is that he has cancer. Is there anything else this could be, anything
not horribly bad?

A fat pocket. My cat had one that felt like a hard boiled egg. The vet told me
it was just fat. I was relieved.

It turns out that what I was feeling was also a fat pocket. The vet
says that he appears to be healthy, and not to worry. We went ahead
and did a blood panel/urinalysis. That seemed reasonably as he's
seven, and has never had those done before.

Oh, good!  I read your first 2 posts after you'd proably left for the vet
yesterday, & was wondering how it'd gone.

Wonderful!

Jane, I hope he gets a clean bill of health and that the deposit disappears
soon. My Cheeky's was gone in a bit over a month.

That's great, what a relief!

Glad it turned out ok. I think I have a fat pocket in my abdomen also.
It seems to have spread to most of the surrounding area! No matter how
much exercise I get or how much weight I lose, it's still there.

Only a vet would know for sure.

Yes, of course. We have an appointment for this evening - but that
still gives me several hours to worry.

Cheeks had a fat pocket on her back that worried the hell out of me. Vet
shrugged and said "it's probably a little fatty deposit. Let us know if it
doesn't go away." Hers went away. I hope your cat's does.

Hi Jane,
I found a lump on my last cat's chest which the vet biopsied and it was found
to just be a benign cyst.  So try not to worry until your kitty has been to the
vet, although I know that's easier said than done.

I hope the cat is ok but I would remain calm. It could turn out to be
nothing at all.

Vet time. It might be it's supposed to be there (organs can feel a bit
frightening) but if it isn't the vet is the best place to go. It may NOT be
a bad thing but if it is the sooner you find out the better.

She said in her other post that she already had an appointment.
