    Do cats have nightmares?
My youngest cat will be sound asleep and then all of a sudden he'll go
"mruup" and wake up and shake his head and have this confused look on
his face. He then goes back to sleep.

I think they can. I've seen my shoot a foot up in the air from a deep sleep.

I've caught Cheeky making little cries in her sleep, just barely audible.
I'm not sure what's going through her little head, though, and I've never
seen her wake up.

Buddha grunts and snores when she sleeps, but it seems like sweet sleep and
not nightmares. It's a shame we can't ask them.

I think they do. Jacob also apparently runs a lot in his dreams,
judging by his little legs. :-)

My Siamese used to have nightmares.  She was a stray and by the
condition fur when she found me, she had been wandering for several
months.  Who knows what bad experiences she relived in her dreams.
