I'm about to give up on trying to get the boys to eat healthy food.
I've never had cats that were so finicky. Even the few healthy foods
they liked before, like Wellness Chicken and Triumph Salmon no longer
make the grade. They just look at me like I'm insulting them and Nipsy
attempts to bury it by scraping porcelin off the bathtub.

They always have some Science Diet or Eukanuba or other supposedly
quality dry food around, usually two kinds, but I want them eating the
wet stuff as well. Neither is particularly starving to death; Nipsy is
16 lbs and Espy is 10-11. Jackie will eat just about anything wet.

This stuff all costs at least 70 cents a can (why is there no cents
key on a keyboard?) and I'm getting tired of flushing it away.

Any suggestions on some decent food that they won't shnub?

Try Petguard Premium Feast, Chicken Stew , Beef Barley and Turkey Lite
flavors. They have been a pretty good success with my picky eaters. I can
get some at the health food store, otherwise I order it from
petfooddirect.com.  It is about .89 per 3 oz. can but I don't throw hardly
any away, so I feel it is worth it.

Well, if they consider 50 percent. I feed my cats a lot but I'm still
spending less that throwing away all the other foods I was buying at
whatever they cost.  Maybe just for Jackie cat who needs to be extra
healthy?

I was going to suggest Petguard too.  Before I switched my cats to a homemade
diet, one of the foods I fed was Petguard and my cats really liked it.

My cats love Trader Joe's and at .45 a can, it's a great deal.

If you mean the 3oz cans (three kinds), yes, they do eat that and it
seems ok. Tongol Tuna and Shrimp or Crab. One of them is half liquid.

They do NOT like any of the 6oz cans.

My cats are just the opposite - hate the 3 oz cans, love the 6 oz.

Walmart's brand Special Kitty is pretty good. I feed my cats this and have
no problems. They get Friskies canned as well.

Oy. Let me guess- "pretty good" is based on your cats' psychic
transmissions of "ooh, nummy" as opposed to actual evaluation of
nutritional worth.

Oh good Lord. You'd think someone who manages to find the funds to run a "radio
station for cats" would care enough about their health to buy anything but the
absolute cheapest-crap food on the shelf.

CP must be a Clay Aiken fan and therefore a cat abuser. .

OMG, you are RIGHT! See, I just *knew* my cats were sending me
psychic transmissions when they were astrally projecting themselves
over my bed, but I couldn't figure out what they were saying 'cause
I'm not very good at speaking "cat" yet.

Yup, that kind of logic. :-)

Special Kitty is to cats as McDonald's is to humans.
Same for Friskies and Whiskas and all the other stuff that costs less
for a bag of food than it does for a bag of cat litter. It has slightly
more nutrients than litter. Slightly.

Kinda like hot dogs. Mmmm. Lips and a.sholes. Yummy.

pretty exclusively to pet stores, however they do sell it on amazon.com

Not many stores too near me but there is one on my bike route home so
I'll pick up a couple of cans. I did try their dry food once. I still
have it since they wouldn't eat it but you never can tell.

I tried Old Mother Hubbard today (beef, cheese?, egg) I think. Two out
of three ate it.

I feel your pain. <G> I'm currently cycling through various high-
quality foods trying to find one that my cats will eat. Innova canned
earned utter disdain. Innova dry is picked at and abandoned in favor
of K/D dry, which would be fine if it were the cat who is supposed to
be eating the K/D who was doing it. Next up to bat- Wellness.

On an optimistic note, the cats who came here with the cases of Fancy
Fleeced have now decided that they don't like that, either. At least
I don't have to wean them off of it. :-)

Make sure you check the date on it so it's not expired.  If it is, I would
throw it out.

I believe Old Mother Hubbard is the same company as Wellness.

You have to use the numeric keypad- the ones at the top of the
keyboard won't work. If you use a laptop to post here, as I generally
do, it's more of a PITA to turn on the numeric keypad than to simply
type "cents". :-)

My ex-housemate got my cat addicted to Friskies Buffett sliced or
shredded ( she used to get 9 Lives cans before that).  Now she won't
eat any canned stuff that's not sliced or shredded and nothing cheaper
than Friskies.  Local Walmarts ( I live in Tucson, AZ) carry it for 26
cents a can, and I buy about 100 cans of different flavors at a time
when Safeway has the 4/ $1.00 sale.
