Anyone else planning on seeing the movie "Two Brothers" when it comes out
this weekend?  I saw a trailer for it when we went to see Shrek 2, and it
looks pretty good.  It's about two tiger brothers in colonial Cambodia.
They end up getting separated, one is a boy's pet for a while, then he's in
the circus, and the other tiger is trained as an attack animal.  From what I
saw of the trailer, it seems to have a good message.
I'm such a sucker for animal movies.  I must have seen "The Incredible
Journey" 100 times as a kid.  Or, maybe I'll just wait till it comes out on
DVD and buy it for Bartleby's birthday (sorry, couldn't resist!)

I'm pretty militant in my beliefs about animals in the
film/entertainment industries.  Despite "good" messages, such animals
in films are still basically wild animals forced to live in capitivity
and force to perfom under coercion.  I just have a lot of problem with
it, morally.  There are so many examples of the animal being treated
poorly/having poor outcomes despite supposed "protective" measures
that were in place.

You know, I don't know why, but I never really thought about it.  I'm very
much opposed to the circus for the same reasons, but I never thought about
film/TV being basically the same thing. When I hear about an elephant that
went on a rampage at a circus, I always "well, what do you expect?"  Thanks
for the food for thought.  I think I'll be reevaluating some things.

You're welcome. :)  It's one of my pet peeves/projects.

This is a beautiful movie with a great message that deserves to be seen by
everyone who cares about animals and even more so by those who haven't
thought much about animals. It really makes its point about what people
have done to wild animals without being overbearing; the story is
beautifully told.

As for the problem of captive animals, there are more tigers in captivity
now than there are in the wild because the wild population has been killed
off so extensively--there may be no hope for wild populations in the
future. There definitely will be no hope for wild populations if people
don't wake up worldwide, and in order to wake up, they need to see what
these animals are like. They do think, they do feel, they do want and
deserve to live their lives in peace. A movie like Two Brothers is the
only way to reach people. The animals in it were treated well and were not
coerced--coersion is not used by any intelligent animal handler.
