I'm seriously thinking about getting a kitten, but I can't decide if I
should get 1 or 2. I presently don't have a cat. A friend of mine said
she has 9 kittens and wants to give them away. I saw the whole litter the
other day and each kitten looks very cute and friendly, including the
parent cats. The kittens are 12 weeks old. They are not a pure breed as
most are all gray and a smaller number are all black. I'm wondering if
it's better, for their sake, to get two instead of one.
Is it any different to care for 2 cats instead of 1?

I'd get 2. They have each other for company when you're not home and it's
not much more work caring for 2 than 1.

Two is always better because they are good company. I've never heard anyone
say they were sorry to get two, but many people go and get another shortly
after getting one because they cannot keep up with the energy. It's also
very good company and fun for you.

Not really. Having 2 cats is a great idea, as they can keep each other company
when you're not around. Also, it helps with socializing to have 2 kittens.
They're great at playing with each other and using up that kitten energy. I
would highly recommend getting 2.

And a digital camera so you can keep us updated on their childhood and

I have a digital camera so I can take plenty of pictures and post them
on a site. I've decided to get 2 kittens. They should be at my place
tomorrow. My friend wasn't home today when I dropped by unannounced.

Expect 2x the consumption of food and litter.
Also expect having to deal with 2x the issues (problems) than with just
one cat.
But, also expect 2x the fun and enjoyment.

Answered in another newsgroup. For future reference, you don't have
to post separately to each of the newsgroups; you can post to all of
them at the same time- it's called cross-posting. When kept to a
minimum number of groups, it's not impolite. :-)

Other than extra food, water, litter and vet bills, no. I don't think
it's any more work at all, honestly, just a little more money. As long
as I have a bowl of food and water, putting more in there isn't a big
deal. And I have to change/scoop a box, anyway, so that's no more work
or at most an extra 30 seconds a day.
Once you have one, you might as well get another. I find it much easier
to care for more than one. If you only have one, you have to be the
entertainer - and they can have oodles of energy. If you have more than
one, they entertain each other and you don't feel guilty for working all
day.

Two is definitely better than one! They'll play with each other and
entertain you. They'll keep each other company while you're out. Don't
worry about their ignoring you. They will each have a relationship with
you according to their personalities.
You wlll never regret getting two. Or three! No, start with two. ;-)

I add my vote for two kittens. =o) For the companionship, fun and love, you
get double the coverage, and the cats can keep one another company when
you're not home. The vet bills are a little higher, and feeding two cats is
a little more expensive, but definitely worth it. Two kittens will go
through your food and litter supplies faster, but you'd still have to buy
the food and litter if you only get one cat. Once you have all their basic
equipment such as food bowls, litter boxes and toys, it's really not that
bad.

Get 2! They will play together. Taking care of 2 is no more trouble than
1. Definitely get 2.
