i hav a new two month old kitten. she was the runt of the litter and is
small for her age, but doing well. we have had her for about a week. her
stomach is very large so i suspected tapeworms. i went to the store a
brought some medicine for it. But i accidentally got the one for
roundworms. Would this kill the tapeworms? i saw two but they were still
alive. Is there somthing around the house that will kill them? Her vet
appointment is at the end of the month. Im just looking for a possible
remedy in the meantime.

any help is greatly appreciated,
Cach

Cach, please don't use the over-the-counter remedy on your kitten. They aren't
safe, especially for an 8-week-old kitten. Neither is just using something
"around the house" when you aren't sure even what *kind* of worms she has. The
vet will do a stool sample, determine exactly which kind of medication is safe
*and* effective for her. Move the appointment up if you have to.

I'd say forget using OTC worming meds.  Bring her - along w/ a stool sample
if you can, to the vet, & have the vet administer the correct worming med.
Since the vet appt. is still about 3 weeks away, call them & explain the
problem, to get an appt. for her sooner.

If you've seen tapeworm segments, call the vet and tell them you have
segments and could they prescribe something in advance of the visit. Usually
if you can collect segments to confirm the animal actually has a tape worm
they'll give you something to treat it.

Has she been treated for fleas yet?

You can treat this inexpensively yourself with the same remedies used by
vets. Some countries such as Canada and Australia permit the sale of
medications that would require vet prescriptions in other countries.

If you're certain that is in fact a tapeworm, then here's the cheapest
source for Praziquantel
