Need advice on flea problem

I have two cats.  They are brother and sister and are now 8 months
old.   Three days ago, I found fleas on them.   I don't know how they
got them as they are indoor cats.  I imagine my wife or I could have
brought one or more in and they found there way to the cats.  I bought
a Hartz product called "Flea and Tick Drops Plus".   It has been two
days since I applied it and I still find the fleas on the cats.   They
may be fewer in number, but I am not sure.  Does anyone have any
experience with this product?   Should I try anything else?

My wife and I are working on our household to get rid of adult fleas
and eggs.   We are not infested to the extent that we have found them
jumping on us.   We are trying our best so it doesn't get to that
point.   We have vacuumed everything and we have spread a flea powder
over every cloth covered surface (and vacuumed it off after a one hour
treatment period).   Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any thoughts you may provide.

First of all, Hartz is pretty much useless, doesn't really kill fleas, but
has been know to cause illness and/or kill cats ;/

Best see your vet and get some Frontline, Advantage or Revolution.  Most of
those not only kill fleas, but also halt the egg development.  I use
Frontline Plus (kills fleas & ticks) on all 4 of my adult cats, and haven't
seen a flea on any of them.

I also spray my carpets and soft furnishings with Acclaim which kills
the flea eggs.

If you treat your cats right away with Frontline, Advantage of
Revolution (DON'T USE HARTZ), you will solve the problem right away.
Any flea eggs that hatch will jump on the cat and die.  If you are going
to vacuum, get a flea collar (not for the cats), cut it up and put it in
the vacuum bag.  Extensive treatment of the house should not be
necessary.

I agree that you should get some frontline.. but when you do, mention to the
vet you have used the hartz product.  He might recommend you wait a while
before putting the frontline on to make sure there isn't an interaction
reaction

One of the responses to my flea problem indicated that I should spray
Acclaim on my carpets and furnishings.   I got a product (i.e.,
"Enforcer: Flea killer)  from the local hardware.   Where can I get
Acclaim or something else of equal quality?  Please provide some
suggestions.
