I have a question I hope no one thinks is stupid.

Both James and Tucker are inside kitties now (If you remember, James used to be in/out, Tucker has always been in). Both are shedding really bad, though even James has been inside for months now.

The problem we're experiencing is the furniture. Covered with fur!
Any ideas how we can keep them off and does anyone have any ideas how to get the fur off easily? I vacuum and even use the 3M sticky roller thing but it takes forever and doesn't all come off.

My job changed recently so I have to wear nice clothes and can't have em in kitty fur.

Thanks guys :)

I was wondering what "fu" was when I saw the subject line. ;-)

What is the texture of the furniture upholstery?

I was thinking some sort of Thai noodle dish.

GREAT tool is one of those lint brushes with the pad that
removes hair when you brush it one way-- like here:

int_brush.htm

It is hard to describe, but the smooth feeling surface has tiny soft hooks
that pick up even fine fur. You brush it *with* the grain with your hand to
remove the fur. They work really, really well on fine-woven upholstery--I
use mine to get Buddha's black fur off of the camel colored couch in the
library.

I have one of those and it does nothing for me -  I hate the thing

I find grooming daily helps but nothing works like the vacuum.
I also have a rubber brush that helps pull off the hair on furniture
but not as much as vacuuming. Lets face it if you got cats you got
fur. You can minimize it a bit but it is never going away.

I never tried shed - x ---

Wow, I thought it would work for everyone.

Works great here. I have one that has two sides with the hooks going in
opposite directions (so it can be easily used with either hand I guess). I
just have to be sure I'm using the correct side or it cleans out the loops
on whatever I'm trying to get the fur off of.

I also have put cat beds on a chair and the couch in the living room.
Surprisingly enough they actually sleep in them. If I have company or want
to sit in that chair I move the bed and the cat hair goes with it.

Regular combing will help.

I have used the same product years, and it does the best job of anything I
found if I have permitted a fairly good amount of fur to build up on
carpeting, furniture (and on the back of my "fur-lined rugs").  I bought
mine under the name "magic brush" (spelled differently than the brand name
shown in the original link), and I have found that some work better than
others.  The magic brush will leave some fur in some fabrics (especially
those with texture), and I have another item that helps with the
"leftovers."  It looks like a thick, very soft sponge.  I bought it at a pet
supply store a couple of years ago but don't have a link for it.  A vacuum
cleaner with a good agitating attachment works very well if I am really
doing a good job of cleaning, but the advantage of the magic brush is that I
can grab it and quickly walk from place to place, cleaning up in a matter of
minutes.

I vacuum my furniture. Hell, since I have wood floors now, it's the
only thing left to vacuum. :-)

With that said, vacuuming works beautifully. I look ridiculous doing
it, but at least the fur (or fu) is off.

Make sure you are using the right side, otherwise you put the hair
back where it was.  I have had several of these over 20 years or more
and find them very helpful.

I have found that  a zoom groom works well for me.
It is one of this cat massagers hair removers.
Soft rubber with long fingers coming out if it.
Just brush furniture just like cat.
Antagonist - 30 May 2004 00:04 GMT
Try gathering the fur up while wearing a rubber glove. If you use a rubber
textured cat brush like a Zoom Groom (you should if you don't!) they work
great too.

it could be seasonal shedding. they also didn't spend so much time
inside before an lost their fur outside.  they could need some vitamins
or supplements for stronger fur and you can also wipe them with some
antished wipes. both can be bought at pet stores like petco.  they also
sell a bunch of stuff for cat hair removal and grooming.  you might also
want to keep your kitties off the furniture by spraying it with some
repellent.

Thank you everyone for the advice :)
I do have one of those brush thingies I think Mary suggested. I have used it for a couple years. It doesn't work well at all, but it takes some of the hair off. It attaches to the vacuum, which I have never done, so when I get a sec I will try that.
I am also looking into that zoom groom thing :) Well by looking into, I looked it up on line so far LOL New jobs steal time.
However, someone said ya can't keep them off LOL And this is more or less true. And I am trying not to feel like a failure for actually putting an ad in the newspaper to get rid of the couch that is so bad.
The futon is fine, I can take off the liner, or even cover with a blanket for James. Tuck won't sleep on that one anyway LOL
But the couch with the threaded thick fibers (donno what it's called) is just too hard. I have done the blanket on the seats and back trick. I have vacuumed daily, I have done the brush thing that goes both ways. I have brushed and brushed and brushed the cats. Especially Tucker who is very long furred.
Nothing at all works so.. the couch has to go. ::nods:: that is the solution :)
I know, I know, I know. Can we say overindulgent? We really don't let them have their way on *everything* but the solution here outweighs the couch being around LOL
I am still trying, however, to find a solution to too much fuR :)
