Hot Spots

I finally found a spray that actually heals Shamrock's hotspots
when he gets them.  Since the use of cyclosporine he doesn't flare
up often, but in the spring/early summer he does get itchy to the
point he needs some additional help.  It took a long time to find
this pattern because he used to flare up year round.  He suffers
from EGC.

A couple of weeks ago I thought I saw an angry red spot on him but
when I looked closely I couldn't find anything more than a
reddish/pinkish nipple.  I wrote it off as a trick of the light
since he was in a sun spot on the floor.  The a week ago I saw the
real spot and it was ugly!  It was in the fold of his back leg so
hard to find but once found I can see that it really bothers him.
I went back to every other day on the cyclosporine and found
something in the store that I hadn't seen before, and I am always
on the lookout for hotspot stuff.  This stuff has almost
completely cleared this hotspot in just under a week. He's such a
good boy when I need to spritz him and he lays quiet on his back
when I say "let Mommy see".

That's good to know, Cheryl.   I just looked at the ingredients:

> Water, Boric Acid, Benzalkonium Chloride (0.2%), Potassium Chloride, Zinc
Sulfate, Sodium Borate, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, and Camphor.

Does it really have a smell of camphor to it?   The last time I remember
dealing with that stuff is when my mom used to load her closets up with it
back in the sixties or seventies, and she would stock up on a product
called Campho-Phenique for minor skin infections.   What a smell that stuff
had!

I've been using (in addition to Biotin and Omega 3 gelcaps):

Itch Stop Wipes and Itch Stick from Petkin.com:

http://www.petkin.com/1-800-PETKIN-1/product_information.jsp?products_id=53

http://www.petkin.com/1-800-PETKIN-1/product_information.jsp?products_id=58

Contains witch hazel, aloe vera gel, comfrey and vitamins for cooling
relief, plus lidocaine to stop itch and pain. Bitter taste helps stop
licking, scratching and biting to prevent further irritation.

Petkin has a vast array of cleaning products for cats.  Thank goodness I
haven't had to use their "Tushie Wipes" for pets yet!

I'm also using Drsfostersmith.com's Septi-Soothe Spray and pads on
occasion:

Septi-Soothe Mist
Active ingredient: 0.5% Chlorhexidine Diacetate
Other ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Isopropyl Alcohol, Boric acid,
Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Bitter Extractives.

Unfortunately, our cat doesn't react like Shamrock and welcome this
treatment.  As soon as she sees me lock her bedroom door (she spends most
of her day in her favorite bedroom when she's not on my mom's lap), she
knows something's up.  She's such a sweet, docile thing that when she knows
I"m coming to pick her up, she meows a few times, jogs a few steps and then
submits to being carried to the kitchen table for her treatment.  She
actually doesn't mind the pads as they're very soothing, but the spray
scares her a little.   I also use Tresaderm from time to time if I think
she's been licking those hind legs a little too much.

As you know, she has what the vet (for lack of a better description) calls
a licky granuloma.   It only seems to be on her left hind leg and the
inside of her right hind leg.  She licks oval bald patches there, and licks
nowhere else, other than her usual grooming.

i don't notice any scent at all. But our furries have a much better
sense of smell.  he doesn't seem bothered by it.

i was a bit lax on giving him the cyclosporine and it really proves
that spring is when he's at his worst.  For several years i just
couldn't pin down a season where he was worse than others. he used
to flare up year round.

I just read over in your group what happened. I'm so sorry. You and
your GF must just feel so terrible. Honey, if this was me I'd
probably put her down, but only you can make that decision.

Many prayers going out for her as you did for Shadow during his hard
time.

Subject: Get better BuZZards cat "Patches"

Awww...his gf accidently halfway ran over his sweet Patches and broke his
back :(
She did not know he was laying under the tire sleeping :(....

She feels _awful_ and BuZZard also but they took Patches to the vet ER right
then and there~ Vet says that the cat is in too good of heath to put to
sleep...Buzzard did not want it put to sleep unless it was the only thing
they could do but seems Patches will be ok in time.

I guess about 6-8 weeks...he had to make a bed for Kitty in his room and
keep a very close eye on the poor baby and keep its food and litter close
enough for the kitty kat :(

SO ~here is to PATCHES getting better very soon!!!

/me petz (Purrrrrrzzz) and {{hugZzz}} Patches {>^.,^<} and gives treatz.

I am a troll.. but this isnt a troll by all means...
i love cats. and have had fun with the katrina troll and all.. but
seriously... i wouldn't troll over my own orecious kitty patches who
I have had for 17 years.  At this moment.. I am sitting next to her.. and
she is awake.. in very good spirits. and drinking her little heart
out as  I type.  She is really really fighting for her life.
Thank you cheryl

I gotcha, Buzzard. If I had known it was you, I would have
known you were serious.
