I would suspect that yes, her discomfort is the cause.
I'm glad you took her to the vet. That would have been my first
recommendation. Did the vet do a full checkup?
Behavior changes are very often the result of a physical problem.
They are rarely caused by coat color. :)
Let us know how she gets on.

Yes, the vet did a full checkup. However, her meowing and kneeding she's
always done since she was little. She would try to suck on our skin all the
time, and be very unhapy when she couldn't. I thought maybe she was weened
from her mother at a young age or somethng. But she recently in the last oh
3 or 4 months started to follow me around all the time.

Hi Mel,
I also have a tortie. She loves to be with me and follows me around too :)
She doesn't meow like yours, but sometimes she will carry one of her toys
around in her mouth and meow plaintively. I think she thinks it's her baby.
When I got Meesha, some people were saying that torties are cranky cats. But
that couldn't be further from the truth. Meesha is the sweetest, gentlest cat
I've ever had. We also have her brother Mickey, a gray tuxedo. He kneads and
suckles on my husband's beard. He's 4 years old now and has been doing it
since he was a kitten.

Camille does that, too, but her noises are LOUD. Oh, and if it's not
one of her toys, it's one of my socks or a pair of nylons she's dug
out of the laundry.
> I think she thinks it's her baby.
I have no idea what Camille thinks. I'm not sure she's the sharpest
knife in the drawer, to be honest. :-)
> When I got Meesha, some people were saying that torties are cranky cats.
Camille is catsophrenic. Lovey one minute, running like a bat out of
hell to hide the next (anything taller than she is that is moving
scares her).

And it's not a weaning thing. Camille does the obsessive hand/feet
licking, and her mamacat was around until Camille was about three or
four years old. Mamacat didn't kick her kittens off the nipple until
they were larger than she was.

I'm glad to hear that this is somewhat normal behavior. Hope will wander
around the house and periodically whine. It's cute when she drags her little
feather stick that I bought for my cats. She's an odd one. Most cats of mine
go nuts over the feather. No she wants the other end of the stick! She goes
mad after it lol She is a strange one! lol I have three other cats besides
her. I have Smokie who is a 4 year old Blue Russian, I have CC (or sassy as
is her nick name) She's a 6 year old tuxedo cat. And then there is Precious
(nick name lucky) I found her at a park in a rusty old cage with a note
attached to her saying she was free to a good home. No food or water with
her. I took her in, hence her nickname lucky! lol I believe she is a tabby
mix. I'm working on a webpage to show my "children" lol I'm hoping with the
memorial day holiday that I'd be able to do get that finished. =)

Aww, she sounds adorable :) Meesha sometimes chases the stick end too, when
Mickey is dragging it by the feather.

That's horrible :( I'm so glad she found a forever home with you.

She is cute. I finally got my webpage up for my cats. I'm hopefully going to
put a daily update on them on the page. But for now, there are intros on
each one, a photo page, and a message board. The URL is

They are all so beautiful. Hope, as a baby, looks just like
my Gnarly's dark tortie--who had a really big mouth, even as a baby!
Your Russian Blue is strikingly handsome, too. They all look really happy,
too!
Melissa K. Brown - 01 Jun 2004 01:32 GMT
Oh yes. Hope has always had a big mouth! LOL But smokie is the one who has
a bottomless pit as a stomach lol about every 4 hours he's hungry LOL

Interesting. So if it's not a weaning thing, I wonder why they do it? Cause
it makes them happy?

As near as I can figure, it's a comfort/affection thing. :-)

She is "communicating". Some girls are very talkative, some are the
silent type. Is she part Siamese? They are very vocal. MLB

Camille, my dilute torti, is very vocal in the morning when she's
following me around begging to be petted. The rest of the time, she's
pretty quiet- except when Oscar is pissing her off and she's growling
and hissing at him.
> Like if I'm laying
> in bed. She'll find a spot and sit there and maybe for a few seconds and she
> gets up and meows some more and finds another spot and does this repeatedly.
Camille will squeeze up next to me on the couch or if I'm reading in
bed, she'll crawl under the covers and lick my feet. (She has a
licking fetish.) However, when I'm lying in bed, she'll snuggle close
to me until I either pet her or until she figures out that I'm going
to sleep, in which case, she moves to a different spot on the bed.
She's just weird.
> While in these various spots she'll try to put her nose in a wrinkle of the

> Plus as of late, she follows me around everywhere. If I go into the bathroom
> she'll race to the bathroom even before I get in there.
Camille hauls a.s into the bathroom if she thinks I'm headed in
there. Her little claws scrabble on the floors and she shoots like a
rocket into the bathroom. Again, she's just weird.
> It's hard in the
> kitchen while I'm cooking it's hard to cook and to watch out for her by my
> feet. I find if I pet her and hold her, she stops being vocal.
Camille hates to be held, and the more I pet her, the more vocal she
gets, mewling the second I stop petting.
> Of corse I
> can not hold her all the time. Just wondering if this is just typical Torti

Sounds like a cat to me. :-)
