Goodbye to Alex

We will be saying goodbye to Alex on Thursday night. His medical condition
has been steadily declining for the last few months, in spite of his
medications. His CRF seems to be stable, so it isn't that. The vet thinks
that it's possible his cardiac situation has deteriorated or more likely
that he may have an occult cancer that hasn't been identified. We are not
going to put him through a battery of tests and x-rays to determine the
answer, as his situation is hopeless no matter what the reason. He's 17
years old. He has lost nearly two pounds in the last three months, in
addition to the weight he lost before. He lies curled up in a corner most of
the time. Occasionally, he will curl up on a kitchen chair (when he is able
to make the jump). He sleeps probably 22 or 23 hours a day. He is barely
eating or drinking. As a result, he is urinating much less frequently, and
has become dehydrated. I don't know if he has pain or not, but based on his
behavior, I know for sure he feels very sick. It will be hard to say
goodbye.
Best regards,
---Cindy S.

"....Rise up slowly, Angel...."   It's hard to let you go.
Purrs for those who mourn.    MLB

Cindy, you are doing a brave and courageous thing for your boy.

It's so hard to let them go, especially when you can't pin down what is
wrong. We faced the same situation a few years ago. It was somewhat of a
comfort to me that the vet did a last check before the injection and was
able to find a large tumor. Even if he had not found it, we knew we had
to let him go.

I hope Alex has a peaceful passing, and that you know you did the right
thing.

Take care,

Rhonda

Oh, no Cindy,

I am so so sorry to hear this.  It is such a hard decision to have to make.
I know you're a great cat mom and you're giving Alex the best gift you can
give.  You gave him a wonderful life and now you are giving him peace and
respite from pain and sickness.

Again, I am so sorry.

Take care, Bonnie

It sure sounds like the right thing to do. Love and kisses to Alex.

I just lost my 17-year-old last June and I can sympathize with what you're
going through.  Purrs for your breaking heart and we'll light a candle
Thursday night to help guide Alex on his way to the Bridge.

Hugs,

I'm very sorry that you had to make the final decision for Alex, but it
was of course the kindest thing you could do for him. It sounds like
there was little choice in the matter :-(

I'm glad he had a long and good life with you; this something to be very
grateful for, as so many cats go to the Bridge at less than half Alex's
age. Small comfort, I know.

Purrs on the way for your grieving heart.
