best bait for cat trap?

What is the best bait that will have long lasting smell to attract a cat to
a havahart trap?
Just cat food scums over after a day and Im not sure is effective then.

After trying canned cat food & tuna fish - w/no success, bacon worked for my
sister when she was trapping some very wary ferals. She replenished the
bait every day. (Mom cat was spayed & released, kittens were socialized &
adopted.)

I take it you didn't read the posts linked? Meaning, I wouldn't help
"muffin" trap a cat because she intends to have it killed. Will probably
