litter crystals and leaky liners?

Hi all,
I just started using the litter crystals, and am looking for some
advice. While I am loving them overall, I've noticed a strange thing
happening which never used to happen with my previous litter. (Which
is Feline Pine.)

Satellite pees in the same spot in the box all the time. While I do
get in there to mix the crystals up every other day, the crystals in
that spot seem to get saturated pretty easily. Right around that spot
a tear (or a hole?) seems to be appearing in the liner, and the papers
underneath it are getting wet. Yucky.

is the urine not being fully absorbed by the crystals eating a hole in
the liner?? Is there a really tough liner someone can recommend? Do
you blend the crystals with other litter - if so, how's that working?
I love not having to scoop up the clumps, because they always break up
in there and ruin the litter.

Thanks in advance,
jen

You don't need to use liners. The crystals are so absorbent that nothing
sticks to the pan. Get rid of the liners/papers.

It takes a few minutes for complete absorption. The urine is getting into
the liners before the crystals have a chance to do their job.

Don't use any liner.

The crystals are designed to work independently. If you mix them with other
litters, I suspect it will impede the ability of the other litter to clump,
and you'll have a big mess. There are "crystal blends" on the market that
work very well in terms of reducing odor. However, these "blends" work like
regular clumping litter but the crystals cut down on the odor by at least
75%. I suspect these crystals are not the same as the ones that are designed
to work by themselves.

Just use the all-crystal litter in the bare pan and you'll be fine. I
promise. When you dump out the crystals to clean the pan, you might want to
rinse with a little Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle if there's any
residual odor.

I gave up pretty quick on using crystal litter - great as it is for
urine
absorption - simply because several of my cats are very big on
repeated scratching and kicking coverups after doing their thing
and the upkeep of scrupulous sweeping got to be too much
trouble....so I went back to clumping litter. It was just like
stepping on broken glass kibbles with bare feet. She's
right, though about liners: *lose* the liners as for this type
litter, crystal, they only impede the crystals' action.

I also stopped using the all crystal litter when one of my cats decided that
she didn't like it anymore and preferred to use the carpeting in the living
room instead. I returned to using traditional clumping litter in one of my
litter boxes for the sake of this particular cat and once I did that, all
five cats started using the box with the clumping litter and no one wanted
to use the crystal litter anymore. But apparently Jen's cats are willing to
use the all-crystal litter. I would also have continued to use it if my cats
hadn't rejected it. I thought it was great. Unfortunately, the cats didn't
agree.

Hi Cindy,
You convinced me, I'll lose the liner right away. It didn't occur to
me that the liner would somehow be preventing the crystals  from
working, though.

Thanks!

My cat is dictating this:

The only reason you find stuff in the box after changing the litter is
because you don't change it often enough and I have to scratch through
the liner.

The crystals are great, don't get me wrong, but friggin' change it out
more often!

Seriously, if you started buying that other crap, I would scratch your
eyes out when you sleep.
