New cat toy, or another way to waste battery life?

Found this toy at the pet food store where I buy specialty food and
since the now dead Panic Mouse was such a hit years ago, thought
this might be, too.

Now, Shamrock and Scarlett immediately investigated

but ... it took Rhett a little longer. He is a skiddish cat already,
but add a whirring sound and a banging sound, and he bolts.  He was
still intrigued for a while.

Bonnie played with it later but she picked the time that I was
uploading these videos from my camera to play. I'll catch her some
other time.  :))

Is it like... a conveyor belt with a string attached?

Exactly. I found this video grouped with mine since they both have
fling-ama-string in the title, and now see that the black elastic
strap is supposed to go around the door to keep it from banging
all over the place.  LOL

I love all the little paws under the doors in this one!

HAHA!  I wondered about that... the banging that is.  It looks really
neat.  I like how it doesn't seem to bind or mess up when they hold
on to the string for a while.

Oh yeah, too cute.

Having watched the videos, I have to ask:  Where did you buy this thing?
I think Meep might actually play with that one - she luffs strings!

Tried PetsMart, no joy.

that looks fabulous and i think timid terri would love it as she loves
dangly strings and suchlike,  I haven't seen anything like it in the
UK pet shops nor at the cat shows onthe stands there, wonder if a US
company would ship it?

I too love the white paws sticking from under the door waving about in
a totally futile manner

I got it at a specialty pet food store called Crunchies, but I don't
think it's a chain. I've never seen it in chain stores or any other
store. I bet they sell them online!

Although I must say that some of the content issued during checkout
was not properly authorized for SSL (secure site credentials) and
some of the secure site URL's data was not encrypted, which is
definitely odd as that is part of what a secure site is for, so I'm
cautiously apprehensive, although it does have a Verisign certificate
so... *shrugs*

How sturdy is that string?  Could it be bitten off?  I'm always leery about
toys with string - especially when meant to be played without human
intervention.  Ingested string could be fatal.  Other than that concern, it
looks like a great toy (is it meant to be used with supervision only - and
even so, what would you do if you see your cat ingesting a string?)

I think any string, or any toy for that matter, can be dismantled
by a cat. That said, it seems sturdy enough for interactive play.
Shamrock held the string in his mouth and tried to run off with
it. It held. This time.

This is definitely a "human intervention" type of toy.

I'd take it away of course. When it isn't on, the string can be
hidden behind the elastic conveyor "belt", and when no one is
around it should be put away.

I don't think this one is suitable for your cats, though. At least
while ARcher and Ozzy are still young. LOL Those two are trouble
makers.  hehehe

Of course, but I think I meant something different (maybe because I was
thinking of another type of string).  I once tried to get a piece of string
out of Bandit's mouth, but the little inward-pointing spikes on her tongue
made it almost impossible - the more she and I struggled to get it out, the
faster it went down her throat.  I was lucky that it was short enough to not
cause any problems, but I'm a worry-wart and I spent a couple of frantic
days imaging all the damage it could be doing her intestines.

LOL!  A-yup, the other day Archer managed to push a metal ladder away from
the wall of the garage and was just lucky that he managed to jump far enough
away while it was falling that it didn't crush him under it!  How he managed
this I'll never know - it was leaning against the wall of the garage at a 30
degree angle!!!

Hugs,
