I have had major issues with my newserver and unable to read the group (I
refuse to read it through Google News).  I just wanted to say hello!!  I
hope everyone and their kitties are doing well.  For those of you who have
sick cats, I hope they get well very soon, and for those of you who have
lost cats, you have my deepest sympathies.

Levi just turned 1 year old.  I cannot believe it!  He is still suckling on
my lip and being his sweet, playful kitteny self.  He has become quite the
moth/fly/other insect hunter and now I don't get so tweaked when the kids
let them in through the back door!  Levi also loves the puppy (who is 4
months today and over 30 lbs).  Hendrix likes to clean out the cats' ears
and they let him, even though the big dope steps on both cats sometimes.

Rudy will be 4 at the end of this month.  I cannot fathom that it has
almost been 4 years since we found this boy as a 4 month old feral wildman,
and what a domestic lush he is now.  He's sleeping in my pj drawer at this
very moment, and he has stopped trying to get outside (finally!).  He
slipped out unnoticed one night last week and spent the entire night
outside.  When I found him in the morning, he practically lept into my
arms.  The back door weather stripping and wood were SHREDDED from him
trying to get back in.  I can't believe neither dog barked.  My poor baby.
Thankfully he wasn't hurt or lost and we don't have to worry about that
anymore.  At least for a while.

Hopefully my stupid newserver will stop being so unreliable for a while and
I can catch up with y'all!

Old age is always my best excuse ;-)

You betcha!  I still remember how scared I was for those days following
that teat incident.  He was soooo tiny and sick!  Now he is the picture of
health, with only very rare outbreaks of FHV (thank you L-lysine!).

He's such a little loverboy, it kills me.  He can't sleep at night unless
some part of his little body is touching me.  He sits in my lap all day
when I am working (and is there right now).  I soooooo almost adopted a
stray recently, but the harmony in this house is just too dang perfect and
I don't want to disrupt that (the stray is safely placed elsewhere, BTW).
When my mom added her third cat, all hell broke loose, so I've decided that
we're full up for the next 15 or so years until one of these leaves me.  By
then I'll be oooooolllllldddd (58 or so) so I'll probably adopt a senior.
Levi is to be my last kitten.

Wow.

Thankfully he will probably remain a perpetual kitten just like my little
Manx Calvin did for nearly all of his 21 years.  :-)

I know exactly what you mean. As much as I'd love a whole clowder
of cats, things aren't purrfect here, but I'm afraid of what
another would do to the dynamics. Plus, I just have too many vet
bills at this point. I'm at my limit. And now maybe over it if
Bonnie turns out to be sick. But I committed to the four I have,
and we'll make due.

Welcome back, and I hope your computer behaves.

I hear that!  We have 2 dogs and 2 cats--plus 2 human children.  Medical
bills are significant portion of the budget!  I wish people would think
about budgeting for vet care before they impulsively adopted/purchased that
cute kitten or puppy... I swear I think some people put more thought into
what candy bar they will get in the grocery check-out line.

The operative word is commited and that is what separates good, responsible
pet owners like you from the a-holes who scrimp on vet care because they
"can't afford it" (but likely have all kinds of things they could do
without if they weren't so selfish).

I don't know what is going on with Bonnie, but I sure hope she is okay, or
will be!!!
