Today I was downstairs in the family room where the big TV is, doing
some reading and remembered about a DVD I bought a couple of years
ago. I put it in the player, and the sounds of birds and squeaky mice
immediately attracted Rhett. He went to the TV and started looking
behind it, next to it, as the mice and birds ran/flew out of camera
view. It was hysterical!  I was crying with laughter!  Soon 3 of 4
cats were entranced. Scarlett was upstairs catnapping, so was missing
out. Even former feral Bonnie, who doesn't seem to notice these
things, was glued to the TV watching the animals and birds and bugs.
Cats must not care about size because on the big screen TV the rats
were supersized, bigger than they are, but they didn't care.  Then
Scarlett finally came downstairs and after about 15 minutes of
watching the others, she finally noticed the TV and went wild looking
behind it and pushing the others out of the way to watch.  Shamrock
bopped her on the head. ONe of those times I wish I had my camera
handy but was afraid if I went upstairs that they'd follow me and the
moment would be over.  It was a good laugh though. I just loved
watching them.

our tortie cat tegan (RB july 2006) used to do the same thing whenever
wildlife programmes were on tv, any nature documentaries by david
attenborough, things abuot birds she really loved, used to watch the
bird on the screen intently then go and look for it at the side of the
tv or behind it when said birdie flew out of shot, and then look at us
as if to ask "well where did it go? did you see where it went?". She
also liked 'One man and his dog' which is a programme they have on bbc
1 on sundays about sheepdogs and herding sheeps, like a televised
competition of sheepdog handling skills, and with allt he swhistles
and such liek onthe screen she woudl be captivated.

she never grew out of it or realised that these critters onthe screen
were not really there, even right to the end she loved a good repeat
on 'wildlife on one', batting at the screen with her paws to  try and
touch whatever weird creature david attenborough had just discovered.
She was also fairly into horse racing onthe tv too, although that may
have been something to do with the illegal betting syndicate she was
part of with the tom cat from next door.

we thought it was a sign of her being a kitten when she first did it
as a baby, then we thought mayeb it was a sign of her being a bit
retarded when she still did it as an adult, then we thought it was a
sign of senility when she still did it in her old age, we had never
seen it is any of our other cats you see. Glad to hear that she was
not the only one and that she was not 'odd', and it was hilarious
watchign her watching the tv at times, and watching her go searching
for the birds behind the tv, it is one of my best memories of her
which I will never ever lose.

bless her heart, and your kitties hearts too

On the back of the DVD it has a URL, but it isn't valid anymore.
http://www.petsittersvideos.com/  It says "Sunrise Productions" but
parts of it you can tell is very ameturish. For example, the videos
of the squirrels in the yard are shaky and too close-up, and the
cameraperson has a hard time keeping them in frame.  But the
clownfish are a hit along with the bird feeder with finches. And the
mice and rats, of course. They also seemed to like the butterflies.
Throughout the whole thing is birdie chirping, regardless of what's
going on on-screen. I bought it at PetSmart several years ago.

Apparently there's a few different ones. I did a bit of Googling.

"Kitty Sitter" and "Feline Follies" are available from Netflix.

"Kitty Sitter" gets crummy reviews and "Feline Follies" is only
a bit better.

There's also "Cat Sitter Volume I & Volume II" available from
petsittervideos.com...

One of those is probably the one you have.

I'll have to get Bubba one...

You're right. I had an extra "s" in my URL.  It's volume 1. I'm
uploading a small portion of it, but it's huge. Uploading to
photobucket.com right now. I'll post the URL when it's up.  Cats are
of course sleeping now, so no action video of them watching it.  LOL

Couldn't do it.  Taking too long, and it's an early morning for me
tomorrow.  Well, from the website you get the idea. And my cats give
it 2 paws up.  :)

There's samples of both I & II at the website.

Bubba perked up for a second when I played one, then
yawned, rolled over and went back to sleep so I dunno...

I kinda liked it though...

The only funny thing I can recall was a few years ago when football was on
and Rover our cat climbed on the chair next to the TV and started pawing
where the ball was.
The photo was on my photobucket album posted on another thread.
Pets have great characteristics don't they?

take care
