I was getting burned out from a volatile stock market, today,
and said "F**k it". So I went to the local range with my Sig 239,
.40 cal auto, to punch a few holes in some paper and relax a
bit.
Anyway, there were about 30 "business" type people having
lunch under the pavillion with a few Smith & Wesson people
(you could tell they were S & W by the blue shirts with the
S & W logo). I'm not sure what the event was, but I heard a couple
talking and got the impression that they were all corporate CEO's.
So I went down the road a little to one of the outdoor ranges and
set up next to a range with some guy in a S & W shirt ( I live about
15 miles from the Smith & Wesson factory BTW).
I started shooting some holes in paper and about 15 minutes
later, the whole group of CEO's files over to the range next to me.
Not all that unusual, S & W uses that range to train groups
from police SWAT teams, to private security operatives (bodyguards).
I'd just taped up a new target and I turned around to be startled by
a young lady from S & W standing behind me.
"Hi" she said. "Hello" I replied. (You can tell I'm a read smooth
talker with the young ladies). "Do you know who Jerry Miculek is?"
she asked. I searched my memory and said "Yes, actually I do".
"He's about to do a demo. If you'd like to meet him, you're welcome
to join us". "Cool!.......Yea, I would". So we walked over to the group
at the next range.
Who the hell is Jerry Miculek, you're probably wondering.
Jerry holds 5 World Records for revolver speed shooting.

And, embarrassingly enough, he was the guy setting up
at the next range, as I was doing my paper punching,
watching me shoot.

Damn, that guy can shoot. He opened the demo
by drilling a target with 6 shots from a .38.....In less
than a second. Then followed that by drilling 3 targets,
about 5 ft apart, 2 shots in each, again in under a second.
Impressive as hell. Try saying "bang" six times as fast as
you can.......he shoots faster.
Of course, he's talking about what, why, where, how as
he's doing this.
Then he goes into rapid reloading. How fast do you think
a human can fire 6 shots from a revolver, reload, and then
fire another 6 shots? Well, I watched him do it in 2.7 seconds.
Not a misprint....UNDER 3 seconds to draw, shoot, reload,
shoot.
At this point I'm thinking, "sh.t, I'd pay good money to see
a dozen "gangsta's" try to rob this guy." They'd all be dead
before the first one hit the ground....and have a VERY surprised
look on their faces.
One revolver in each hand......12 shots, dead on, 1.1seconds.
That's 650 rounds/minute......my submachine gun only fires 800 rpm.
He did a few other things that were more in the area of "trick
shooting"....holding the gun upside down....that type of thing.
I also got to see S & W's new 460 revolver in action. Three time
as powerful as a .44 magnum. One round through a cabbage
sent cole slaw flying out at about a 30 ft radius.

I got to talk with Jerry for a while after the event. Damn nice guy.
I learned a bit, too.
I'm now at least 10% faster than I was and I'll bet, with a little
practice, that can go up to 25 %.

All in all, it was a good day.

Hey, if I was funny, I'd be on "Letterman" and not doing 15 minutes
of standup for a free drink. The new material thing is the hardest
part of putting together a routine. But this summer, I've got the
clowns running for president, and Paris Hilton.

It's like my guitar skills, I'm good, but not good enough to make a living
at it.
