At least it's a felony and will be on his record. I hate to see places where it's still a misdemeanor.

We all know it's out there, but the rest of us don't always feel compelled to post the stories.

A s depressing as they may be we need to be reminded of the cruelty towards animals. Personally, it helps to strengthen my resolve to fight this behaviour towards animals.

Some of us like to see them because we like to take action, such as mailing congressmen, judges, public officials, and other figures to ensure heavy sentences for cruelty. If a light sentence is handed out, we like to call and bitch about it if we can find contact info.
2. People read this group who don't post here. They may also wish to take action. They may also have no idea that stuff like this really happens. I have actually talked to people who think situations like this are a rare occurence. Unfortunately, they are not.
3. You are free to ignore posts you don't care to read. The headline said it all.
4. To annoy you. ;)

Or say how much we hate them all we want--but freedom of speech, right? What Usenet is supposed to be about.

We kinda agreed to disagree on the whole why-do-we-post-these-stories thing before, IIRC. ;) (or I dreamed s**t up again *g*)
I wonder why people post that they don't like what other people post, then I go and post something that can pretty much be construed to mean I didn't like what they posted. *laughs at self*

HUDAV847 - 12 May 2004 06:05 GMT Isn't it possible to get the story out there, but to do it with a less graphic subject line? Either way, animal cruelty is something I think about all the time. However, some people aren't able to process such cruel details. My friend, a cat lover, would start bawling if I suddenly blurted out that some man in Phoenix killed a kitten with a shovel. Just a suggestion.
Cat Protector - 12 May 2004 06:51 GMT You can't sugarcoat the beating of an animal. It is disgusting and after reading the story I wanted to beat the guy in the same manner.

Yeah, yeah yeah. Blah blah blah. There's no rule about posting every disgusting animal abuse story on usenet if that's what floats your boat. But the important thing is, what else are you doing? Are you donating money to the legal fund for prosecution of this scumbag? Have you called your DA, and written letters to encourage him to prosecute to the full letter of the law? Have you organized friends/other animal lovers to do the same? Have you written a letter to the editor of your local paper to proclaim that Arizona, USA should not, and will not, tolerate this kind of abuse? Well? What else have you done?

[quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > Sherry Thank you, Sherry. That was my point. I actually wrote a post similar to that last night, but it seems to have dissappeared into a black hole. I usually don't read the animal abuse posts, unless the subject is something like "Sign a Petition..." "Write Your Congressman About xyz Matter". When it's posted just so everyone can respond "That's awful!", I don't understand the point.

Cat Protector - 13 May 2004 19:16 GMT I actually never listen to Sherry anymore. As for what I have done, when I read the story I definately wrote my state rep to see if they can indeed create an animal cruelty law which would plug up the loopholes. Right now animal cruelty is a felony in the state of Arizona but many who commit it are able to plea it down to a misdemeanor. What we need is a zero tolerance law for animal cruelty. No plea deals and no forgiveness.

"Not listening to Sherry" in this particular instance pretty well cinches it that you don't give a sh.t about that kitten, except to copy/paste it's poor story here to gain attention for yourself. I'm telling you again. Do something. You're in a perfect position, as a local citizen, to give that kitten a voice to your elected officials. Speak for those who can't speak for themselves, for once in your life. If you won't contribute to the defense fund, at least give the DA a call. Show up at every court date, and organize a group of animal lovers to do the same. If you're not willing to do JUST THOSE THINGS, don't bother posting any more local animal abuse stories. As they say, put up or shut up. Sherry

I am not a troll.

CP routinely and habitually misses the point. He's too busy working up his trademark pseudo-righteous indignation to bother actually reading & comprehending what you wrote. Don't worry about it. Everybody else gets it.

HUDAV847 - 13 May 2004 01:47 GMT No, no, no. I'm talking about a subject line such as: More cruelty towards animals (graphic story inside).
