This is more an anecdote post, but I'd rather post it here. I just
bought an iPod. Wanted one for a while, but couldn't see spending the
megabucks they want for them. I recently read that a good stress-
buster is listening to music.  It's true! I burned a lot of my CDs to
it, and some oldies I downloaded back in the Napster days, and yes, I
tend to sing along even if I'm wearing headphones. I used to sing
well. I sang in the church choir, sang solos, played guitar, sang in
school chorus, etc. But I'm a long time smoker and my voice has
suffered.

So an old favorite comes on the iPod and I sing along. The cats look
at me like I've lost my mind.  Rhett meows at me. Shamrock looks at
me with a mean look. The girls don't really react much other than
just stare at me. Just these two.

I burned my son's only CD to it and listen and smile and cry a
little. He was such a great musician.

He was the writer of the band. He didn't write lyrics, but he wrote
the music. After he died they were grieving with the rest of us, but
they also wanted the band to live on. No one had the arrangements. It
was all in Eric's head. My favorite song that they did is called
"Shattered Dreams". It took on a new meaning. One thing in the songs
that makes me smile is how they often mention J Crew, or JC. It's
sort of like when Kid Rock mentions Kid Rock in his songs. And many
other bands that do that. Personalized. Cool. But their band name was
Envision. If you ever hear of them it was my Eric that started it.
God I miss him so much.

It would be cool to hear his music. Is it on a web site somewhere?

I posted all of their songs a while back but ran out of space. Eric
is the lead guitarist. You hear him most in the beginning of the
song. His idea was the synth with the water sounds. He did that alot.
He recorded a song called "The Duck" that was just a synthesizer. I
think it was the Pink Floyd influence when he was a baby.  :)  When
he was in his playpen he would completely stop everything and listen
when The Wall was playing. He was born in 1979, so that had just come
out.

PS - this song was from 2003-2004. Heavily influenced by music at
that time. Pantera, Slayer, many other metal bands that I never
heard of.

It's neat stuff, Cheryl, thanks for sharing it. It is sad beyond words
that you did not get the chance to see your son grow older and have
children of his own, all the things you expected to share with him.

You should have seen him when he gave me the CD and I played it. He
lowered his eyes whenever they sang the F word. LOL He says to me, I
didn't sing that.

I'm just playing

do they have any more songs?
I noticed you burnt them to an ipod thingy

can you add your ipod as a shared network drive?
then lower your shields, we can all download from the little ipod
better unplug that camera first.

The CD has 6 songs. How do you do the shared network drive with the
ipod?

Barry, it's been 4 years. I just gave away the case of his computer
but I kept the hard drive. I know there are songs on there I haven't
heard yet.

hey hey
you might hit paydirt

sell them puppies, he would want you to
hank williams did, writing is a real gift, it's not easy.

I'm very sorry about your boy, 4 years is not that long.
-

you could find a vacant IDE plug inside your machine, if host machine
has decent cmos, just set his HD jumper to CS? any fitting power
supply to the drive is fine.

my pc is flayed open on it's side with the case off.
I move hard drives in and out often enough

I don't know about the network config. could post a zip file,
somewhere

So the band still plays his music, that's endearing.

If you have a desktop computer, it's quite easy to plug in a second hard
drive. Even I can do that.

You never know what you'll find on that hard drive.

Copy it to a new drive before it's lost forever.

true, in laymens terms, but the data is still on there

you have to crack it open like a coconut (so i hear)
i've never done it

if I did, I would keep the aluminum case to recycle in hard times

I can kinda see the Pink Floyd influence. It would be really cool to have a
creative child.

They're just not used to it, right? They are used to your talking voice.
Maybe they are worried that you're howling and something is wrong!

Today I was coming downstairs to start dinner and I heard Boo
yeeeeowwwwwlllling. I was alarmed! She was just sitting on the
upholstered kitchen chair, but she looked really irritated.

Her paw was stuck. It is time to trim claws. Of course as
always, when I gently unhooked her paw, she screamed like
a banshee and made a face like a piranha, and BIT me--but for all
the drama it was a soft bite. (She hates her paws touched.)

One day, I heard great howling and yowling from Gracie and
came down after a while. (At first I thought she was conquering
her rubber snake, but then I noticed a little edge to the yowling.)
She was on the back of the couch, with one arm wayyyy up,
stuck in the sheers. In trying to free herself she had twisted
around and around and the more she twisted the shorter the
sheers got, so she was just about off the ground!

But I digress. :D

That happens to mine, too. Ooo, you mention sheers. ONe day I saw
Scarlett sitting on the thin ledge of my bedroom window where
there are sheers and I could see the sheers moving in and out and
plastered to her face. She was breathing in the fabric. After that
I rearranged them so they were more "bunched". I was afraid she
was going to sufficate.
