Hi, our 1-year-old cat Inka has had a bladder infection for about 4
weeks now.  It has been 4 weeks of Baytril antibiotics with limited
results.  According to the vet at her second of three visits
though,there are no crystals present (although the urine sample was
taken from an accident she had on the vet room floor).

Today a different vet prescribed her a different antibiotic. I think
it was called amoxil.  He also recommended she be put on Medi-Cal's
preventive formula for the rest of her life.  I wasn't too thrilled to
hear that to say the least.  It seems to be very grain heavy for a
cat, and all the recent grain recalls only make it worse.  I've done a
lot of research on cat food the past few months, and I know there is
much better food out there than Medi-Cal and Science Diet (an
alternative he also recommended).

My question is this.  Can anybody recommend some good foods for UTI
prevention that isn't a prescription diet?  Wet or dry food, it
doesn't matter.

Is there something else I'm missing here that I should be asking a
vet?

For reference, we are currently feeding her and her brother a
Nutrience dry food (finishing up their kitten formula actually).  For
a couple months we switched to Felidae's cat and kitten formula, but
decided to switch back for the time being to make sure that one of the
many meat sources in that formula weren't aggravating her condition.
As for wet food (which they split a bit of every night), lately it has
been pretty much all chicken or turkey formulas of Felidae, Eagle Pack
Holistic, Wellness, and Merrick's.
