Hi,

I posted on here at the weekend about Mollie and her itchy ears. Well, we
took her to the vet tonight, and the vet said her ears are crawling with
earmites, and, seeing as we have no other animals, she must have come to us
with them. She was 7 weeks when we got her, she's now 16 weeks. I feel so
bad that she has been suffering this long without me noticing. I just never
noticed her scratching exsessively.

Oh well, he has given us Auroto drops to put in - 3 drops twice a week for 4
weeks. I was just wondering whether anyone had any experience with this
medicine?

Nope.

When my cats got earmites (from the vet, I suspect. Well, not from the
vet herself, y'understand) I just zapped 'em with Revolution and Bob's
yer father's brother. Far less trouble than drops in the lug 'oles.

I agree with Steve. When we took in a stray last summer, she had a very bad ear
mite infection. The vet gave her ear drops in his office and cleaned out her
ears, then asked did we want to keep treating her with drops or would we rather
give her Revolution, one application two weeks apart? Since we were already
using Revolution as a heartworm preventative with our other cats, there was no
question--of course we preferred to treat with Revolution rather than trying to
give ear drops every day. And the added benefit was that since our other cats
were already on Revolution, they were protected against getting ear mites from
the new cat.

how much did the revolution cost you for the ear mites. my cats have had ear
mites for over a year and we use the ear mite drops all the time but they
just never go away they dont itch them they realluy arent that bad but i
would like them to be free of them and am getting sick of buying medicine
that doesnt work.

I don't blame you. Revolution is not cheap, but it does work. Ask your vet; you
will need a prescription to buy it. I think we paid around $50 for a six month
supply. You may be able to find a better price online but you will still need a
prescription.

One thing you can do in addition to the drops is to clean the ears
gently with a cotton swab moistened with rubbing alcohol.  This kills
mites and gets rid of the dung they leave behind.
