Hello all,

Well, today I noticed Mollie scratching her right ear more than usual, and
shaking her head.

Tonight we looked in there, and there is some dark brown wax in there,
whereas the left one is pretty much clear (apart from a few small bits).
There is also a tiny bit of a smell.  I'm guessing she has earmites.

Anyway, tomorrow is emergencies only at the vets (it's Sunday) and then
Monday it is Bank Holiday so they will be closed.

Is it OK to wait until Tuesday?  She doesn't seem to be in any pain.

What causes earmites anyway?!

Thanks

I've never had a cat with earmites but I've heard mineral oil helps.  Not as a
substitute for vet care but maybe to provide her a little comfort until you can
get to the vet next week.  Don't stick anything sharp in her ear, but put
mineral oil on a cotton ball and sort of rub around inside her ear (not going
very deep, of course).  Maybe it'll help a little.

I second this. You can use an eyedropper to drop a bit of mineral oil
into the ear, then stick a cotton ball (also with mineral oil on it)
in her ear (not deeply, just in the base of the ear). Then kind of
fold the ear over a little bit and rub at the base of it. It'll make
a kind of squishy sound, which is kind of gross, but also completely
normal. Take out the cotton ball and repeat if necessary. :-)

She will be fine until Tuesday if it is mites.

Sounds like earmites to me. I would give her ears a good cleaning and then
get her to the vet as soon as you can.

Yes, IMO.

They're parasites.

BTW, it could also be a yeast infection as opposed to ear mites.
Either way, it should be fine to wait until Tuesday to take her to
the vet.
