>Hi, Judy! The message I've copied in below came to me from Nigel's daddy's
>"Mom" Kathleen. It's self-explanatory, I'm just sending it along to you in
>the hopes of widening the circle of potential homes for the poor cat. He
>isn't a possibility for me since Luna is still kinda freaking out over
>Nigel not being here and it probably would be good for this guy to have to
>move in with my "nervous nellie". If you can think of anybody who might
>help, please feel free to pass this along. If you get any takers, let me
>know and I'll pass it back to Kathleen. Thanks!

>Hi, everyone...I'm sending this out to all in the hope one of you might know
>of someone (most ideally a little old lady...or an older, single lady or
>someone alone, no kids) who would be interested in a cat who is currently in
>very unfortunate circumstances.  It's a black and white semi-longhaired
>neutered male, about 4 or 5 years old...nice cat, but has had some problems
>w/his living situation:  his current home has two very noisy dogs, his
>owners both smoke a lot and the cat has developed allergies (I suspect to
>the smoking), and one of the owners is terminally ill (cancer).  His wife
>does not seem to be interested in the cat, besides having her hands and
>emotions full at the moment, and the feline has been relegated to staying in
>a kennel.  Not good for a cat, as you all know.  They are now talking about
>getting him a 'foster' home for him, but I suspect what they really mean is
>placing him in an appropriate home.  He deserves a place where he can enjoy
>his life...he has not been used to children, tho' I don't know if he would
>accept them; he has been around dogs, but is not 'buddies' with them.  He is
>an indoor cat, very relaxed, but has been through a lot of late.  Might need
>a person w/a little patience to get him settled in, but I think he would be
>a lovely pet for someone.  It's very sad to see all this happening.  I can
>help in transport and delivery, etc.  He currently lives on the Peninsula.
>Let me know if you can think of anything; I know we have all placed pets for
>terminally-ill friends before, and that's what this really is.
>Best to all.

Contact the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society (no-kill shelter) and
talk to them about an owner-surrender. There is a waiting list, but it
isn't unmanageably long. I volunteer there regularly and the cat will
be well-cared for while waiting for a new home.
