As I type this, she's at it again. Even If I wear my hair up, she will crawl
up my back and pull it out of the ties I put it in and start munching. Last
night I came home from the salon and she spent most of the night sniffing
it... now this morning, she's back to eating. Can anyone help with an idea
as to WHY??

I've had cats who would try to "groom" my hair and would, as a
result, end up with strands stuck in their mouths. Is there a chance
she's trying to groom you?

That's a good idea... she isn't a licker as a rule. I just worry about the
crap I put in my hair making her sick... well that and I just want to
understand just what the hell she's thinking... lol

We had an applehead siamese when I was in high school who was about
the size of a baby elephant and who used to lie on my pillow and lick
my hair every night. He wasn't a licker, either, except for that. I
think it was just his way of expressing affection. (Well, along with
following me to school in the morning, which was just weird.)

Perhaps she is just trying to eliminate the "crap" you use in your
hair. Try washing your hair and see if she does it when it is super
clean.

She's thinking that you're kinda weird to only have "fur" on the very
top of your head, but she loves you and she wants to lick your fur,
whatever she can find :

You put crap in your hair? Your cat probably thinks you've lost your
f.cking mind!! No wonder shes trying to clean you! You smell like
crap!

She's grooming you, probably because she loves you. -- M9

Because she has a fetish. You have fetishes. Why would you assume your
cat doesn't? Ours likes to sniff his foot after he scratches his ear!
The thing I don't understand is why you would let her continue? You
obviously don't like it. Just scold her and she'll eventually get the
idea. Ours liked to scent-mark using his cheek to the side of my big
toe. He felt he must do this every time he reentered the room. Sort of
like the big cats ... bonding with the pack and reestablishing
themselves upon returning and so-forth. I think it's sick. I didn't
like the idea of kitty oils being rubbed on me like gang graffiti on a
subway wall. I began a scolding campaign and lo and behold, after
about a week, he now STOPS just before he starts to rub and just goes
and lays at my feet! You must do the same. And remember ... discipline
is not cruel. It shows you love your pet and she will respect you more
in the end. Hope this helped.

My last cat used to do that alll the time, and I never put goop in my hair,
except shampoo. My Siamese just started doing that the other day.
I think maybe they like it because it's stringy, and cats loooove string.
Can't think of anything better.

I believe she´s in need of a specific type of fiber. I saw one of my
cats doing that when I put him back on raw meat only. Do you give her
grass? If not, start giving her some grass and that might fix the
problem.

My cats start by licking first like they are trying to groom me then the
move to the knawing almost out of habit. I always thought it was a habitual
thing but they would never touch grass. Hate the stuff which is why we give
it to them through the Purina's Indoor cat food. When they start to try and
eat the hair tho I pull them away. now that they are a little older they
have stopped and learned it's not an acceptaple habit. When she starts to
try and eat the hair remove the cat from the sitation and say No forcefully.
Worked for us. Hope it helps. Normally we use water sprtizters but
spritzing ourselves didn't seem like a good idea at the time ;)
