I went out shopping for a new collar for Isis and discovered many of them
come with bells on them. Does anyone else have a cat that has a collar with
a on it?

A lot of collars come with bells, probably because of the almost universal
belief that it will inhibit their ability to kill birds and such. Although I've
heard that disputed, under the theory that a bird won't equate the sound of a
bell with danger. Who knows. Anyway, you can remove the bell if it bugs Isis.
Mine have had bells and they don't seem to bother them.

A study in Australia showed that belled cats actually caught more prey than
cats without bells, but that could possibly be because people tend to put bells
on the cats with the best hunting skills. In any case, it showed that cats that
are able to catch birds are not at all deterred by bells.

I take them off as soon as I buy a collar. I find them annoying and I'm sure
the cats do too.

I keep it on. If they're indoor/outdoor cats like mine, then it sets
my heart at ease to hear them rambling around out there. Mine have
never caught a bird, with or without a bell, but they do seem to have
learned how to freeze prior to stalking so they don't set off the
bell. They apply that when they're hiding from me as well :

I took the one off of the collar too. It was annoying of course Isis might
have liked it.

I highly doubt she liked it.  How would you like to wear a bell constantly
ringing in your ear all day?

my cats use to bring me home a charity of dead guests but once i
strapped them with bells the numbers dropped to at least half.
litterally a life saver.
