Hello,

Does anyone know of a source for carbimazole?  I live in Seattle,
Washington and would like to try carbimazole for our 19-year-old
siamese kitty, Turi.  He has mild (subclinical?) hyperthyroidism and
also mild kidney failure.  Because of the kidney failure, radioactive
iodine is not an option.  I've been reading about carbimazole as an
alternative to methimazole (tapazole,) but I understand it's not
usually available in the U.S.  Has any of you been able to buy it
through a pharmacy, online or otherwise?  If you know of a source,
would you please email me at my yahoo email:  connie3140@yahoo.com

Thanks very much in advance,

Connie

Have you spoken to your veterinarian about this? It would seem to me
that this would be the appropriate course of action, both because the
vet can evaluate efficacy for your cat and is more likely to be able
to obtain carbimazole, even if s/he has to get it overseas. I know
that Alex's oncologist had to get one of her chemotherapeutic agents
from Germany as it isn't made in the U.S. anymore.
