My foster cat Beetle came to us with 3 kittens at 10 days old. The kittens
are now 8 weeks old, and Beetle went back to the shelter so her milk can dry
up before she is spayed. She's been at the shelter for a few days now, and
yesterday and today I observed her displaying "in heat" type behavior, like
raising her butt in the air, rubbing all over everything, rolling around on
the floor. Is it possible she could be in heat again, this soon?

Oh you betcha! Cats can go in heat and get pregnant while they are still
nursing the previous litter. Time for that spaying to make her more
comfortable. We've spayed mama cats who were still nursing (semi wild
ferals) or ones in heat or the combo of both with no problems. The vet has
to be careful with the incision and you have to provide a little more
monitoring during the post op period, but on the whole, the cat is a LOT
happier to have those hormones leave the system.

Yes, that's quite possible, actually.
This may happen as soon as when the kittens are only three-four weeks old.

Yes. Cats can go into heat while still nursing a litter.

material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his
way."

Yep, it's possible. And in this case, sounds probable.

I thought so. I wanted to check here before I told the shelter's cat
coordinator. I'll check with her and see if we can get her spaying moved
up.
