Folks:

We have an inexplicable Abbie the Cat problem. She is constantly
pushing her water bowl around the kitchen. I have tried putting the
water in different containers, plastic, big and little cereal bowls and
even heavy pans but she still pushes them around and splashes
everywhere.  I have even tried to weigh the bowls down!

Does anyone know what might be causing this behavior???

Also:  she has also been throwing up her food. We are doing
IAMS--doesn't seem to matter-she seems to throw-up once a day no matter
what.

Urine and bowel stuff seems fine. The vet says she is anemic and needs
an expensive battery of tests and then follow-up stuff.

Abbie is about 15 years old and still active for her age.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I can answer the water dish problem.  They like to see the water move
My spirit always whaps the bowl to make the water ripple   if not he ends up
sticking his nose in the water and getting a nose full.   We moved all our
water dishes to the sink or bath tubs.  I have the water dish that keep the
water flowing  he does not knock those around but those are also secured to
the walls and the water ripples all the time.

Boredom?  Does she like to play a lot?  She may need more stimulation - try
playing with her some more.

Vomiting can be a sign of anything from food intolerance to kidney disease,
hyperthyroidism, etc.  She will need testing done (blood, urine and T4) to
find out if she has any diseases.

You must have had some testing done already if vet knows she's anemic.  If he
recommended more testing, get it done.  At 15, it's definitely time.

Maybe you could get one of those bowls with the huge suction cup on the
bottom that toddlers use? :)

TuTu has one water dish she loves to push around -- I have it in the bath
tub.  IMHO she pushes it to see the water ripple so she will know how high
the water is in the container.  MLB

My cats' water is always in a big doggy bowl with rubber on the bottom so it
doesn't push easily.

Of course I don't look busy,
I did it right the first time.

My cat will try to dismantle the Drinkwell by sticking her nose in the
spout and pushing the top lid off.

I have thwarted that behavior by taping the lid down.

Now she continues with the behavior only to lift the front end of the
Drinkwell right off the floor such that it starts making a noise for a
period of time.

Apparently, she isn't happy unless the Drinkwell makes that noise.

Our cat Sassy loves to do this too!  She especially loves to take her
toys and "wash" them in the water dish.  I finally gave up trying to
change her behavior, I can tell she is just doing it for fun.  I have a
plastic mat I put down and then paper towels underneath the bowl.  I
have to move it around to a different spot every day so the water
doesn't ruin the floor.  I think she has a problem with judging the
depth of the water so she makes ripples, and she finds it fun =)

As for the throwing up, it could be a lot of things.  The only way to
tell for sure is to have tests done, unfortunately.
