New sexual behavior in adult neutered male

Hi everyone,

I have a 4 year old cat I rescued when he was less than a year old. He
was already neutered when I got him. Recently, he has been displaying
some sexualized behavior that has me baffled. We have one other adult
male cat in the house (we have had this other cat for almost two
years).

This cat has always been affectionate, and has enjoyed kneeding and
snuggling on our laps and on blankets. Recently, if I am laying with a
blanket on my lap and my cat comes to visit, he starts of with more
usual affectionate behavior, but eventually, it seems to turn sexual.
His tail gets a bit stiff, he kneeds with his back paws, and his back
twitches. He doesn't seem to quite know what to do, in fact, it
sometimes seems to upset him. He will sometimes back up...I don't want
to get too graphic...but it almost seems like he wants to hump the
blanket/my arm/ and doesn't know how. If I go to gently lift his chest,
stomach, or try to push him off me at these times he emits a sharp,
high pitched, distressed meow. I would like to decrease this behavior
because it seems to upset him, and I would prefer to be able to snuggle
with him without this behavior happening. I realize sexual behavior is
normal and I wouldnt care if he wanted to hump something that wasn't
me....

I don't think he does this with my husband, but my husband does not
know a lot about cat behavior, and he may not recognize it as different
from normal snuggling.

I was told by my vet that kitties do this to show control.  Evidently
your kitty wants to be in control of you.  That is probably why he
doesn't like it when you push him away - he isn't in control.

Humping is not necessarily sexual. It is a dominance behavior as well.

Nonetheless- nobody wants to be humped by their pet (hopefully).
I would just say "no" and remove the cat from whatever part of me he is
paying attention to.
In other words- treat it just like biting behavior.

im not sure how to put this but

stop worrying that he is not going to like you no more

drop kick his tail across the room, and he'll quit

no really, but flic him off...stop letting the cat lick your eyeball

Lupine, I actually have a 1 1/2 year old male cat who displays similar
behavior. He likes to knead on my me when I have his favorite blanket
on top of me. He'll knead the blanket too when it's wadded up on the
couch too, but anyway. He seems to tense up or spasm occasionally in
his hindquarters at times when he's doing it, but I don't really
attribute sexual feelings to the behavior. If anything he seems to be
in a deeply pleasurably state of longing, some sort of trance. I've
heard that the act of kneading is a kind of remembrance of what it was
like to be a kitten with mother. That's one possibility. Who knows why
cats do some of the things they do? Another aspect is the control of
being on top of you and 'preparing' you for a nap which is what he
often does to me, like fluffing up a pillow. He doesn't meow, but then
again I've never tried to stop him. I've pet him while he kneads, but
he ignores it. The odd thing I find about the behavior is that about
half the time he lays down and stretches out on me and goes to sleep,
the other half he jumps right back off and trots off across the house.

Yeah, I've never had a boycat but I don't think this would worry
me unless I saw some obvious evidence of a little kitty stiffy or something.
Then I would just have to say, "eeeyyuuuu! go find a pillow."

(My girl cats totally bliss out when kneading and will often fall into
a deep sleep afterward. The line between sensual and sexual is so
fine, it is really hard to distinguish. In any case as long as you outweigh
the cat by 10 times or so, is there really a problem?)

He does this with you and not your husband....  He smells your cooze. Can't
put it any simpler than that. Perhaps a floral scented douche would end his
attraction.

Dude, that's disgusting.

Besides, I'd HOPE that human and feline phermones would be entirely
different.

Hang around. RobZip can get a whole lot more disgusting than that.

nah, the real source here is not honeyandmusk, its more like the vet
did not take away enough during the cats neutering. He must have left
enough in tact for fuzzy to get excited
THEN AGAIN the slave here may be 6' tall amazon woman with fancy stuff
and the male cat has just lost his mind...its all inner related

You have to love it when fuzzy gets excited.

Oh, wait, you mean the cat ...

uh, never mind.
