Various Kitty Questions

Hello,
I have a bottle fed kitty with a problem. Naturally, since she was bottle fed,
she has some issues...one of which is that she loves to chew the bristles off
my hairbrush. She also likes to suck on my neck, but I can live with that. The
scalp lacerations from blindly groping for my hairbrush in the morning however
are intolerable. What can I do to keep kitty (her name is Bitey, appropriately
enough) from chewing on my stuff? She also likes cosmetic sponges and whatnot,
but the chewing is the only thing that really bothers me.
Another question: I read that it is preferable to spay a kitten before first
estrus. I'm a college student, so I rely on my student aid disbursements to get
by. I was hoping that Bitey's estrus wouldn't come in till my spring
disbursement (arrives in 2 weeks) but I'm pretty sure she's been in heat 3
times since January (She is 7 months old). Will this be a problem?
Another question, far less serious, more out of curiosity: Bitey is an orange
female. How rare really is it and do any other genetic anomalies travel with
it?
Sorry to ask so many questions so quick, but she is a thought provoking kitty!
Thanks,
Beth

Keep them in a drawer or cosmetic bag on your counter.

Not medically. Look around and ask at the shelter for a low cost spay neuter
clinic and have her done as soon as you can.

I don't believe I've ever heard of any.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about bottle fed kittens naturally having
issues.

When you have kittens (much like small children) you have to baby proof the
house. They seem to like to or end up eating stuff that makes no sense to
us. If it's a potential danger to the kitten (rubber bands, dental floss,
pills etc.) or something you just don't want them playing with, make sure
it's put away where they can't get to it.

You must raise your level of displeasure from a feminine squeak to a
masculine demand. In other words, let your hubby handle it. From time
to time, our cat still likes to nurse on my wife's neck, but it used
to be so much worse. It was almost at what you'd call an unhealthy
level.  I simply had to voice my displeasure at him every time he did
it in my presence, and the wife had to do the same. We had to let him
know that IT IS WRONG and he will face shunning rejection and further
displeasure if he continues (no striking, of course!). Just like other
cats who reside in prides, he quickly learned what the 'rest of the
pack' approved of and what they did not. Scolding in a booming yet
firm tone was my number one weapon in the battle of what I call 'kitty
neck masturbation'.
The demand is small, but the reward for the obedient is acceptance
and love. Something that your cat needs from you very badly. Tough
love. It worked for us. My repetitive command to my cat was simple:
"Big Boys Don't Nurse!"

Is she an inside cat? If so, then why the rush to needless sexual
mutilation? Your are dooming her to a lifetime of major hormonal
imbalance. Depression and the like will follow, and the bad thing
is... she can't let you know how terrible it has become. Think it over
carefully before you just go and act because "everybody else is doing
it".

Don't know. Sorry.
