Hello out there,

I recall once being told that a teaspoon (or tablespoon) of Cod Liver Oil
poured over wet cat food will prevent the cat from spewing hairballs.
Anybody got any confirmation on this?

TIA,

When it comes to hairballs, I have never seen Cod Liver Oil as a
recommendation. When it comes to oils, the ones suggested seem to be
mineral, olive or vegetable and in a much less quantity than you suggest. No
more than 1/2 teaspoon.

Why not have a conversation with your vet about this to establish the best
course of action?

Thanks for the info.

The next time I'm scheduled to see him is around the fall.   Oh well.  Good
suggestion, though.

Why not call the vet and ask? This sounds like something that could be
resolved over the phone vs a vet visit. I know that some vets won't consult
over the phone, but many do, so perhaps try that.

Okay, I'll do that!  Thanks for your persistence in helping me,

I totally recommend against it. Cod liver oil is rich in both vitamins
A and D and both are extremely toxic if an overdose is reached and the
(terrible) effects are irreversible. Better try mineral oil or
whatever people usually use for hairballs.

Hmmm....okie dokie.  Will still try to have a conversation with the vet,
though.

Thanks,
