Topical preps can be a problem especially if the cat can reach the spot with
his tongue or if you have other cats that will lick it off. I can't really
recommend any topical
preps other than CortiCalm Cream (Hydrocortisone 1%). It might work if you
can rub enough of it in without irritating his skin and wipe off any residue
so he doesn't ingest very much. Since its a steroid, you'll want to avoid
ingestion as much as possible. You might also want to try a vitamin
E/omega-3 oil prep such as DVM Derm Caps- both orally and topically. Speak
to your vet about these products.
Have you tried a food elimination trial or Hill's z/d to rule out food
allergy? How about cleaning products? Do you use rug shampoos or floor
cleaners? If you have carpets, you might want to try a carpet sealer- some
cats develop contact allergies to the chemicals in the fibers or backing or
adhesive that holds the fibers to the backing.
Best of luck,
Phil

I appreciate all that Phil we ruled out an allergy. It is something that
epileptic get where they want to scratch their skin according to the
specialist. I have had him to specialist after specialist even traveled to
the vet training center in where they train Vet in specializing in as I
call it exotic cat diseases. my vet even went back to school to get training
in epilepsy. I am lucky if he does not know the answer he picks up the
phone and calls who does no hesitation. I had him to a couple cat
behaviorist, 2 allergist and all the bells and whistles have been done. He
is the million dollar kitty; the vet bills have been over $10,000 so far
** FOR FYI He fired that vet tech for his rough handling of rumble it was
his second complaint. My vet said if I am complaining he knows something is
wrong**
I have changed every cleaning product in the house. I actually ripped up
all the carpet and went to hardwood and tiled floors for that reason of the
chemicals on the carpet. I had the house professionally decontaminated
everything got pulled out and scrubbed. I am lucky I have the money to
spend to rule out all the possible problems.
All the vet people recommend is that oatmeal based product or home
remedy Vaseline. None recommend any OTC products just for that reason of
steroids or possible poisoning. My vet is doing his best not to have to put
rumble on steroids unless the diazepam starts to affect the liver or
kidneys. I was hoping you or someone had heard of a product that was safe
for if ingested with all the new products coming out. It is hard to keep up
I will ask my vet about "vitamin E/omega-3 oil prep such as DVM Derm Caps"
I know we were giving him a multiple vitamin for a while; I would have to
pull out his chart and look. We stopped it it was not having any real
effect as much as the simple depo shot does. Maybe the simplest solution is
the best. I know when he needs one he starts to scratch hard and becomes
over groomy and away he goes gets the shot and stops for 4 to 8 months so
far. I was looking for something I could put on the wounds in between seeing
he needs to go and getting him into he vet.
I am happy to announce we have no had a seizure in over 2 years now YEAH
Thanks for your responses Phil you are always a great help
