Hello,
My name is Melinda and I am trying to get information about the
aftereffects of colectomy surgery. My cat Chloe had this surgery done
two months ago. She seems to be doing okay with the exception that
after she defecates, she seems to be quite distressed. She stalks
around meowing loudly and appears to be attempting to defecate again,
with mixed results. Has this been anyone else's experience?
Any information would sure be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Melinda. You might want to try alt.med.veterinary with your question,
too. Was the surgery because of megacolon or something similar? I had a
cat with megacolon but he was too far gone before the option of surgery
was brought up and the side effects mentioned sound like what you're
going through. Best wishes for Choe.

I am a very happy person. It's just that I have no patients for
stupidity.

Melinda,
There is a feline megacolon group on Yahoo newsgroups. They are a great
bunch of people and some have cats who have had that surgery.
I am still keeping my fingers crossed that my megacolon cat will not
have to have the operation. At the same time I am glad that it is
available should she need it.

She probably just misses the stank of her vile and filthy litter box.
Het...! This gives the phrase "Cat in a bag" a totally new meaning:)

Oh, I'm so sorry, Jennie. Now I see why it didn't make sense to you..
I misspelled a word.
She probably just misses the stank of her vile and filthy litter box.

If you are so smart, how come you don't know the difference between
patients and patience?

It wasn't ME, scatt-stankus... It was my spell check. It knew what I
wanted but it deliberately made me chose the wrong choice. So I
choosed it. It was late at nite and it was tired.

Looks like your spellcheck is playing up again then
(scatt-stankus...choosed...nite), or was this message a feeble attempt at
sarcasm, I can never tell with you.

Funny... The wife says the same thing. But no matter. It is not
important for YOU to know when I'm being sarcastic, Jenny.. It is only
important for ME to know when I'm being sarcastic.

Thanks everyone who replied. I will try that other group and someone
told me of a megacolon group on Yahoo as well.
Also, cat in box, no bag. Cats w/ colectomies still use litter boxes
and look pretty much the same. No colostomy bags or anything,
thankfully.
