Well, I did my best. I couldn't coax him close enough to tag him again
or take him to the vet. The weather got cold, and he must've just run
out of food and water. Maybe it was FIV.
I'm so damn angry. Who let their un-fixed cats out to give birth to
him? Or who kicked him out of the house because they couldn't
house-train him, or because he scratched the couch or curtains?
He was under our pines in the back. I wish I could have done
something. We gave him a warm place to stay.. but that wasn't enough.
I spent the night shoveling out our winter-hardened back yard to bury
him back there.
And for every Ringo.. there are dozens more out there.
Geez. Why love cats? How can I un-love these poor beasts?

Are you serious? Was he eating the food you put out for him? He must
have been sick.

Sorry bout your cat dude!
Ringo was fortunate to have got some love before he left.
It is sad. I buried a cat in my backyard too.
I didn't want any critter to dig him up, so I buried him
deep and packed the dirt so tight, grass still hasn't grown.
I put him up a little stone gravemarker too.
One day you will see him again.

Everytime I look at Ruprect's pic on my webpage, I get sad.

Oh, Brian, I'm so sorry. You did what you could, and that's what
counts.

Poor Ringo. I'm glad you're giving him a decent burial.
In my neighborhood, there are no strays. I don't know why. Only my
neighbor's DECLAWED big cat, whom I call O because he has an odd name I
can never remember, is outside a lot.
I was going to kidnap him after Dmitri died and turn him into an indoor
cat, but I thought about it, and realized they'd just get another cat
and declaw it, too.
This summer, I was watering some flowers around a tree and it made a
puddle, and O came over and started drinking. It was hot, and the poor
guy was thirsty. I guess these idiots didn't know you have to provide
water for a cat. So I started making sure there was always fresh water
outside, and every day, the water would be empty. (But I also have other
critters, rabbits and squirrels, who live in harmony with a declawed cat)
They got a friggin pit bull for crying out loud, and would let him out
to run around. NO FENCE. Now, she was a sweet dog and I liked her, but I
had pit bulls on both sides of me. (The other pit is behind a huge fence
and has never escaped...he and I are friends through the fence and he's
a big lug of a sweetheart) They decided she was too much trouble (the
pit bull), though, and took her to the country to the neighbor's
brother. She's supposedly happy there.
But there are many other dogs in the neighborhood, and sometimes they
get out of their yards. I'm friendly with them all, but because of O, I
do keep a thing of mace outside in a secret spot, just in case.
I just don't understand some people.
There are just so many Ringos out there and it breaks my heart. Many
people suck.

So true. Last month we had a similar situation with a cat my sister
found, and that kitty died too :(

One of our original cats, Tom, got out by accident and was killed by a
couple of roaming bull-terriers. I watched the whole thing, and
discovered that you can't dissuade bull-terriers with a baseball bat.
