Mine don't claw the leather sectional at all. They once in a while
forget they have their own stuff and poke a little at the fabric
couch, but they haven't come close to shredding it. The key is
finding something, or MULTIPLE somethings that they like better.
Something that they know is theirs. With mine, the main cat furniture
has been owned by many cats. Each new one has to put their own touch
to it by scratching it, and they learn this is the scratching tree.
They learn to reinforce this behavior as others scratch it behind
them.  How many cats do you have?

Yes.

But they prefer the carpet or your best rug or something they can REALLY get
their claws into.

only one, I was told that she didn't get along with other animals, and was
therefore, less likely to be adopted. She loves being queen of the house!

That's so good of you to adopt the less adoptable! I had one of
those a long time ago - I tried getting another cat once but he
would have no parts of it. Until one day along came one that wasn't
going anywhere (he was abandonned by my neighbors - no, they didn't
even move away, they just put him out, the idiots!) When Shadow
came along, Marley just had to deal with it.  LOL They were never
friends, but they learned to co-exist. Since then I can't remember
what it's like to have only one cat. They're just so fun in packs.
:)

I can tell that your little girl is well loved. Spoil her rotten.
They deserve it!  A cat tree will really make her feel like queen
of the house, and queen of her own things!
