Posting again about Reggie... it won't end!  He got an eye infection
in April which never went away.  We finally got him to a specialist
(took forever!) and he has conjunctivitis brought on by the herpes
virus.  He's been getting l-lysene daily for about a month and just
finished two rounds of Famvir, which never quite cleared up the
conjunctivitis.
The opthamologist is gone again for almost a month but I spoke to the
vet on call, who suggested eye drops.  However they have to be given 5
times a day and Reggie is really tired of getting medicine daily for 6
months.  I don't know how we can manage 5 doses a day.  Or we might try
Famvir again.
The vet on call didn't have any other ideas.  When I asked her what
would happen if the drops didn't clear it up, she said, "I don't know."
It's very frustrating with the opthamologist gone -- do any of you have
any experience with conjunctivitis that just won't go away?  What did
you do?
Thanks again.  What a battle this has been...

Good luck with Reggie, I hope he shakes this.

It sounds to me like the medication is just not working for him.

Our cats have hat conjunctivitis a couple of times, and they vet has
always prescribed eye drops. I know it's a pain, but it was only a week
or two and then it was done. The drops were 3 times a day, 5 times does
sound like too much. I came home at lunch to do one dose.

I always gave them treats afterwards, and rattled the bag to get their
attention if they started squirming and trying to get free.

Hope he's better soon.

I think I might ask if there's another eye drop that can be given less
often.  I think 3 times a day would be something Reggie could handle,
he's already gotten pills 2 times a day and handled that well enough.
Thanks for the idea!

I've never had to do eye drops but have had ointment that needed to be
applied a couple of times a day. It only takes a second to apply and hasn't
been all that upsetting to the cat. I wonder if there isn't some type of
ointment that might do the trick. I had one foster develop an allergy to the
one eye ointment and it actually cause additional swelling. Once they
switched to a different ointment her eye cleared up very quickly.

Hope they figure it out soon.
