One of our cats is too spastic at nights.  Yes, I know, cats are
nocturnal, and and I'm sure he'd love it if we let him out at night to
hunt, but that's not going to happen.  We've waited years for him to
calm down, but he's not any less active than when he was a kitten.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of any non-prescription drugs or
whatever that will calm him down, something like an anti-catnip.

Try some "Rescue Remedy" from Bach Flower Remedies. I found out about it
when my cat was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) and had to get
sub Q fluids at home every day. Frankly I thought that is was all baloney
but it worked. I even use it for myself when I am stressed. Here's the web
site:
http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedies.htm

It is sold in health and real food stores as well as pet stores. You can
just rub four drops on your cat's ears, paws, nose. If you cat will put up
with it you can give it to him directly in the mouth.

Good luck. And I have no interest of any sort in this company. This is
just my experience.
