Sensitive stomach? (Was Innova and Diarrhea)

Hi,

I posted a short while back about my cats suddenly developing diarrhea
(and vomiting) in reaction to their usual Innova diet. I've been since
experimenting with other brands (Burns, California natural, etc) and after
a month of this insanity, I finally try Royal Canin's formula for
Sensitive stomach. Lo and behold, it's been two days now and no signs of
diarrhea!

Assuming that all goes well - I'm very curious to know what might've
happened so that they now require food targeted to sensitive stomach (all
3 cats suddenly developing this condition seems suspicious) and also,
whether or not they'll need to be on sensitive stomach food for life.

Thanks in advance,
Amy

That's good to hear :)

That is pretty strange that all 3 developed the same problem.

Definitely very strange, it makes me wonder if there's some other problem
(disease) or if I'm doing something wrong. I had another cat who had IBS,
his condition deteriorated over time and he wasn't able to ingest any of
his special diet anymore -- he was vomiting blood and in pain. I really
don't want to go through that again.

Since all three developed the same problems, other than what Megan said about a
virus, I also wonder if perhaps it's from something else.  Have you used any
new type of cleaners in the house?  Could there have been something the cats
got into?

Since all three cats had this issue at the same time, and since you
tried several foods over a period of time without success, it seems to
me that it is more likely that the diarrhea was a result of a mild virus
that all the cats got rather than a food issue. Coronaviruses are very
contagiouis but often don't show much in the way of symptoms other than
gastrointestinal upset. You might want to try mixing in a little of the
Innova in a few days and see if the diarrhea returns. If it doesn't, and
they tolerate increasing amounts, you'll have your answer.
